I decided to sign up for the Goodguys O.C. event mainly because of the Street Challenge/Autocross event. I attended the Del Mar show to watch the autocross, and it looked like a lot of fun. I have not tried to autocross before, but built my car with the purpose of autocross/road course/drag racing. I was hoping to meet some of the PT members while at the show if they are attending. I will be easy to spot since I am sure I have the only pro-touring '73 Pontiac Grand Am. Thanks.

Yes, a bunch of us from Del Mar will also be at OC. Will be good to see you there. I always bring spare parts and tools, so If you need anything, just ask.

lol.. what sucks is that both Licata and Henry (from Chevy High) both have tricked out modern cars.. Nick's 01 Z28 and Henry's C5 Z06 that just got the fancy suspension treatment..

And on Monday I'm fixing Nick's power steering... why? lol

I need to go borrow a zonda.. or a little Lotus with an american engine... know anyone with a monster miata?

Yeah and Henry's been practicing on 'our' track (El Toro), right? Looking forward to seeing that car run in OC...

Those three (Henry, Nick, and Steve) are no couch potatoes behind the wheel of anything they drive. They'll have their work cut out for them and if anyone thinks the Editor's Challenge is going to be boring, it'll be anything but!!

Regarding the video footage...Since I have zero video footage of my car, I would be willing to pay anyone, or buy a beer or 2..3..4..5 who is willing to take the time to do it. Maybe I can get a friend to go to the show and take some footage.

Here you go. I'm in the middle of uploading 4 HD clips to Vimeo as we speak of last months Del Mar Autocross. It can tide you over and get the rest of us pumped to attend.

People, Vimeo rocks for video quality. All of these vids are from a cheap point and shoot camera.

Though i really wish the embed code from vimeo worked on this site!

So far just the video of Kyle Tucker trying to break into the 29 second club has finished converting.

Ok my Camaro vid finished uploading. Its a vid of my second best run. Ran a 32.3 beating Mary Pozzi's time in my own car which felt good (no offense Mary). I've fixed a nagging gas pedal issue so I will probably ask her to drive again one of these times :p

EDIT: the vid of Stacy Tucker taking my fiance for a ride finished uploading. Here ya go

http://www.vimeo.com/11390872

EDIT: Make sure you guys select HD and expand the screen. Vimeo owns!

EDIT: (again lol)

I LOVE MIKE MAIERS 66 STANG! This thing is sexy going around the cones!

I really like how planted it looks doing the left hander right in front of me.

Here's the configuration that was used last year. It'll probably be very similar this year. However it may differ, you can count on it being some variation of the peanut shape. It is helpful to study Mary's approach to the course. The nice thing about the Goodguys courses is that their small size makes them very easy to learn.

I'll be there with the G8... The Half-Car is still missing... half it's pieces.

With the new goodies it should make for a fun time, although it being a big car, I doubt I'll be able to hustle it around anywhere near competitive... I'm guessing she'll want to break lose on the big sweepers.

Anybody want to go for a ride in the Drift Taxi? lol

Mary knows what I'm talking about... she got a bit slideways with my car at Pleasanton last year.

I don't think you'd be able to run the G8, cars have to be registered for the show to compete.

You still have 2 weeks to try to get someone else to cover your shift etc. It's a great no pressure starter event that doesn't tax the car very much. Do whatever you can to make it out. The price of entry won't be anywhere near as expensive as all of the parts you'll be wanting afterward. Maybe you can make one of the days?

Yup, I was there last year and again at Pleasanton.

Both shows I just showed up, paid my money and played. Although I'm a Good Guy member... just need to renew my membership. I procrastinated and didn't sign up online in time. So I'll be there early in the morning in line with all the rest of the folks getting my GG Car show packet.

GG Autox is a total hoot. You start to make friends with people you're in line with... and rooting for people to do good. Discuss technique, driving line... Fun times!

I have a brake issue to debug but the Malice Malibu will be in attendance. Now all I have to do is find where the car is lossing brake fluid (do I really "need" rear brakes?)

I got the car running after a 2 week teardown, and now I have some type of vibration coming from the suspension or right front wheel when I turn left. Reminds me of a bad wheel bearing. It occurs at all speeds, and cant hear anything, but feel it in the car? Put the car up on stands and did a check of everything...no noises, nothing loose? This really makes me question my ability to participate in the autocross, or even drive the car. My main reason for attending the show was the street challenge. I am pretty bummed out, and cant figure out the problem.

mpozzi
05-08-2010, 09:54 AM
Change out that wheel bearing and check the balance on the tire. Also, check the caliper positioning on the rotor to make sure it's centered.

Just some thoughts and hope you get it diagnosed and fixed. Love to see you and the car there.

Thanks for the advice Mary. I am also looking at the rear brake calipers. I am taking the car to a local Hi Perf. suspension/brake shop on Wednesday for some help. I cant find anything wrong so far. Better to have another set of eyes on it. Hoping to be there this weekend.

I was going to get the car looked at today but now I have an electrical issue. This was my only day off, so it looks as though I am out for the entire event. I just dont have anymore time to figure it out, and do not want to get stranded. Pretty disappointing to say the least.
