Has anyone ever used a CFD program? For work I need to find something to help me plan and predict heat in a tube full of electronics.

I need to design an air scoop and show where the heat will flow to and radiate to other items in this tube. There are a lot of engineers on the site so I thought I would start asking here.

You mean there's no app for that?

I believe Ansys and Solidworks Cosmos have those abilities.

I can find out what we use for server internal airflow modeling.

Solidworks 2010 has what's called floXpress. It anylizes the flow of fluid or air. I'm not sure if its what you would need or not as I really haven't used it much, but the capabilities are there. Also, Im not sure if older versions of Solidworks would have it.

You could probably do a google search and look up the floxpress and get some video demo's to see if whats your after though.

we use a CFD program here, I work for an aerospace company so the one we use is probably top of the line. I will find out the name.
