I just purchased a wilwood set up for my car which includes 6 pistons in front with 13" rotors and 12. 19 for the rear with 4 piston calipers and am not sure to set this up as a manual or power system. Anyone with comments would be appreciated.

What is the car going to be used for? I prefer manual for the better feedback. Many people do like the hydroboost system though.

I called Wilwood and the tec.guy told me to go manual.

Thatīs for two reasons:

1: If something happens with the vacuum you can always stop anyway w.o. p.b.

2: More feeling.

By the way.. How much did you pay for the set?

I have the same setup and was told by Wilwood that they recommend manual. The tech. guy said "Nascars don't have power brakes." My car will be running next month so I'll see then. I can always add hydroboost later if I feel like I need it.
Also, I like the idea of having brakes whether the engine is running or not. I have a rockcrawling Jeep with manual brakes so that I don't fly down a steep hill backwards if the engine dies. It stops ok,not great, but it doesn't have 13" Wilwoods :) so the camaro should be good.

The Wilwood tech guy sounds about as bright as a rock! Nascar guys aren't too worried about FREQUENT stops, mostly speed control, so manual works better for them. It may work better for Wilwood kits too, but the analogy is very lame. FWIW I also prefer manual for the control and feel. Didn't mean to sound irritated, maybe I gotta quit listening to Painkiller... :firefire:

Not to mention, that the Hydroboost system has a nitrogen reserve that allows you at least three good applications if the engine should stop/fail...... and the fact that it has some pretty dran good modulation if I might add. It can have pretty much the same feel and feedback as a manual set-up if you select your parts correctly.

It really comes down to what you wnat and feel you need. Also, it comes down to more money out of pocket if you do choose a power assist unit...... more plumming, more weight, more time and more complexity.

I say go manual, and figure it out from there..... you can always do it later if you feel the need.

.......Just another reason that Willwood provides some good humor around here.

Interesting info here... I have a set of Wilwood 4 piston 12.19 brakes for the front of my car (not assembled yet). Not sure what I'm going to do for rears yet but it will be a disc setup... should I stay with manual for that also? What's a good source for a manual MC? Or should I just go right to Wilwood for that also?

Thanks

I have Wilwood 6 pistons/13" rotors on the front and 4 pistons/12" rotors on the rear. I was using the S10 QTU manual M/C and was not at all happy with the performance. The stock brakes worked way better. Others have had excellent results using the S10 M/C but it did not work well for me. Then I puchased a Hydroboost system thinking I could use the S10 M/C with it but I was wrong. I would have gone with the new CPP M/C but they're not available until this summer, if then. So, I just picked up one of Wilwood's new polished M/C's, the one with the billet cap. I found a good deal on it. If anyone is interested in buying one, let me know and I'll put you in contact with the guy who sold me mine. It's a nice piece but they seem to have a different idea of what polished means. Anyways, I'm expecting the new M/C along with the Hydroboost to give me the performance I've been expecting and lacking out of the Wilwoods. I'll find out in a few weeks.

KAA,
I ran sl6's with a 1"bore MC. Very very hard pedal. I suppose if you had a 7/8" mc it would be ok ( haven't done the math ) but I like the SL4's much better.
