I've had a rocker stud break on my engine for the second time (two separate ones). The heads have been on a bout a year and a half. Vortec heads, 1.5 RRs, upgraded springs, screw in studs/guidplates. The stud snapped in half at the lock. Is it beacause there is too much stress on the tip of the stud? Any ideas? experiences? Thanks
The pic is of the new stud. Thats how much thread coming out of the rocker arm. Is that normal. Sorry cell phone pics. I can better ones tommrow

Something is up, is the pushrod length correct, are the rockers shimmed, is the sweep pattern correct? What hardware is this. Maybe upgrade to ARP's or something.

Also, you said new springs, the rating on the springs might be too high for the standard studs. This happened to me on my LT1, 3 or 4 broke, one at a time. I replaced all of them with ARPs studs and never had another problem.

Stock length pushrods, no rockers arent shimmed. The studs are from the machine shop supplied. No idea of the brand.

I dont know what the springs are. I just let the guy who built my heads know what cam i had and told him to get some springs that will handle it. I'll check the sweep pattern and go ahead and get some ARPs. thanks

You might be over-tightening the poly locks
