A buddy of mine ordered a brand new set of disc brakes for his 70 cougar, and new calipers, he sold the car yesterday and forgot all about them, I can pick them up extremely cheap and was wondering if they would fit on my 64 1/2 mustang? I just purchased the upgraded v8 spindles for it if that helps

I would say that they "might" fit.... I'm no expert, but if you could get them for cheap, go for it and see if they fit. If not, sell them on ebay for a little profit.

What year V8 spindles? Are you doing a V8 swap hence the upgraded spindles? V8 64.5-67 mustang spindles were the same-some may dispute that, but they are interchangeable between the three years-between drum and disc. 68 and up had different spindles for drums and disc. If I were to assume 70 mustang disc spindles you will need to get a tapered sleeve installed into the tie rod end hole of the spindle. There are other ways to do it, but I will need more info on the car, i.e. V8/L6, power/non-power steering car, etc.

Was the car originally a 6 cyl car? Steering is completely different between L6 & V8 mustangs for 64.5-66. I was assuming you were doing a L6 to V8 swap. Do you have pictures of the brake set-up? If it's really stock for a 70 cougar, it will likely be a floating single piston caliper. If that is the case and you have V8 steering, you can use the 70 disc brake spindle and use the outer tie rod ends from the 70 mustang/cougar.

yes im going from L6 to v8 and I thought he had the calipers as well but only the disc brakes so I would have to buy calipers...do I have to upgrade my steering column?

Are you limited on rim size? If not, you are better off going with what bigshotsho93 suggested. The cobra brakes work much better than the 70 cougar brakes for several reasons. Greater piston surface area, lighter components to a certain extent, larger rotors (equals larger braking leverage), etc. Of course there are other brake options you could with as well. The one thing you will definitely need to do is swap out the suspension, steering, and rearend to V8 components.

Im looking into that now for the cobra set later on but I wanted to utilize the cougar discs i got for now and ill be using a set of cragars 15x8 up front and 15x10 in the rear...ive got an 8.8 from a 93 bronco I have to size in place with 3.73 gears...maybe a 4 link if I feel up to it

Looks like all you need then is the 64.5-66 V8 steering components, i.e. center link, idler arm, inner tie rods, pitman arm, and adjusting sleeves. The outer tie rods will need to be from the 70 mustang/cougar. You will need disc brake spindles and caliper brackets from the 70 mustang/cougar as well. I keep forgetting to ask, when you say you have the 70 disc brakes you are only referring to the rotors correct? Oh, yeah, no need to change out the steering column.
