This was my second car I got it when i was 17 I drove it a lot when I first got it. But it's been in apart for years now. It's time to get it back on the road. Plans for it is ls engine and T56, 03 cobra irs, art morrisson front sub frame with C6 suspension, 18x9 and 18x10 wheels haven't decided on which ones though. a 6 point cage and fix all the rust. It will probably take a while to be completed because im buying parts when im able to. When I pulled the carpet out I noticed that The roll bar was held in with 5/16 self tapping bolts and a few carrage head 3/8 bolts. It was in the car when I got it. They guy I bought it from told me it had the orginal 390 in it but when I pulled it out I noticed it was really a 360. He cant be trusted. I dont deal with him anymore. He lies to everyone and will act like he's your friend

Great a AMX!
I'm looking forward to watching your build. Looks like it is in decent shape also.
Give us an outline of what all you want to do.
Good Luck,

looks like you've got most of the big pieces to get the chassis going, that's a pretty good start, now it's just everything else. :)

awesome! AMX's are cool, the best part is you don't see alot of them around, especially pro-touring ones. Good luck with the rest of it.

Awesome plan! That is the beauty of AMC. Take the best from GM, Ford and Chrysler!
Plus AMXs are just plain good looking!
I'm subscribing. Keep the pictures flowing!

Thank you!
Thanks for building an AMX and thanks for sharing.
AMX's are very cool cars, IMHO, and I've wanted to see one Pro-Toured.
Love what you're doing!

Thanks for all the compliments everyone. I'm really excited about getting something done with the amx. I've missed riding in it and all the attention That it got, most people didn't know what it was. When it's finished it will be a much better car and more enjoyable to drive. Someone else is putting the sub fram and getting the irs mounted for me. I'm not a good fabricator so it's best to let someone expercienced handle that. I'll be sure to post pictures of the progress.

I have mixed feelings on PT-ing an AMX. To rare a car for that, but that's just me. Then again you don't have any options unless you do a Javalin and chop the wheel base and body down. That's what will make it so unique.
It's unlike doing a Lemans instead of a GTO, a Base Chevelle vs SS, etc... you just don't have the options. But it's an AMX
That's kinda like PT-ing a Pantera. Probably been done but... why?
I'm sure it'll be an awesome build, very unique and I look forward to the finished car. But it's an AMX... it's seems so wrong, but also so right.
Can't wait to see more progress. It's so confusing to me... :dunno: yet
Then again, I also know of a guy that races one, so a PT'd AMX will be pretty cool in the end.

That's a cool looking amx.
I'm sure there is going to be some people that dont like what im doing to the amx but there is still those all orginal one's out there for other people to enjoy. Mine wasn't I dont have the orginal engine or transmission that come in it, it was orginally green not red and me doing this just makes the orgianl ones worth more right? Car's are meant to have fun with and enjoyed Stock isn't very fun to me. I like to have something different than what everyone else has. Thats why I bought the amx it looks great and it was the first one i had ever seen. :drive1:

Cool build ... but kinda' have mixed feelings on the Chevy engine. Be nice to keep an AMC engine in there, even with all the other upgrades. The 360 can make good power or you can likely find a 401. I'm putting an LS-T56 Magnum behind the 401 in my '74 Javelin AMX, so the transmission can still be done.
Good luck with the build!

How about a Hemi instead of LS engine? At least it is closer to "all in the family"?

I second that! And it would be WAY cooler!

I didn't want to use the amc engine because the ls engine has so much more potential, better fuel mileage, and reliability and cost shouldn't be much more. The hemi is a cool idea and have thought about it but i'm not very familer with them and the ones i've seen for sale cost more than a ls1 would. Just looking on ebay asking price for a 6.1 hemi 6k a ls2 and t56 is about the same price. If i come across a good deal I might change my mind.

Just do a 5.7 they are plenty peppy.. and the heads flow like mad fight from the factory!

Don't get me wrong, the new Hemi (and old Hemi for that matter) is very cool. However, it is tough to beat the bang for the buck of the LS platform.
If it was a Mopar I would say modern Hemi, but I see not issue as it is an AMC. Yes, a 401 would be cool. But what about if you starve a bearing mid corner and ruin a $5k engine? Thats the logic that has me leaning away from a Buick 455 in my 73 Century. Old school engines cost more, and time has moved on. If you are going to see track time the engineering and cost of an LSX is hard to ignore.
Plus, you would have to change your screen name...:)

On the bright side, for your 73 century, you could build a 455LSX. :) It's been heavily debated for my 73 cutlass.

That would be cool. Then do a 4 barrel TB, and a round paper filter like it has a carb.

After 2 years of waiting on someone to install the sub frame they finally got it done. They were also supposed to put the irs in but I did not want to wait any longer to get my car back So im going to put the irs in with some help of a friend. Here is a few pictures of what it looks like now.

yours is nice also. Which frame did you use?

I got mine from Scott Mock (coolwelder62) then me and my Dad built the frame horns, and frame rails down under the car that end just in front of the rear frame rails. Building a 3 link for the back, which is taking me forever, lol.
I haven't started a build thread here yet, but got it on lateral-g: http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=26454&highlight=javelin
I really like the idea of the irs, can't wait to see that installed.
Thanks,
Jon
