Here are a few shots of the car before its assembled and stripes are shot. Of course the pics don't do the color justice. Its got some pretty cool tweeks to it.

The car has a 468 and a T56, Global front end with coilovers, DSE mini tubs, a narowed 12 bolt with 33 plines, Eaton, 4.10s. Obviously a fake RS from the tailpan, but its prety slick. I got some Titanium Forgelines from Frank at Prodigy 18x8, 18x11s, Wilwoods all round.

I mixed it. It started with an 87 Porsche blue and I tweeked it with my painter till I got the pearls and subtle colors where I wanted. I removed some magenta and added black and dorked with the metallics and added pearl. Trust me the pics do it no justice. It goes from black to gray to blue in light, I dig it. Thanks!

RJ - - I LOVE the color :yeah:- can't wait to see that assembled - you mentioned stripes - are you going with a traditional hood and trunk stripes in the black from the tail?

AintQik
04-24-2010, 08:07 AM
Yeah Don. I fought with myself over stripes and actually had somehting done up that looked just like Motiv8tor. I do my mock ups with die cast scale cars. But my love for the stock stripes won me over. I will catch hell from the traditionalists as its not a Z or SS or even a V8 car, but oh well.

The stripes are the same color but in a lighter tint. It was one of the *******izations I made up and it was still on the test panel next to the final color. I said, "hey, that looks cool together"! Same family, just a lighter silvery blue. The Titanium wheels, stripes and body all go well together.

Yup. the trunk is done in the traditional splatter paint, Zoloft or whatever its called lol.

Mind telling me brand sound deadner used?

AintQik
04-29-2010, 01:52 PM
I'll be up there in the morning and check. I'm not sure if both are Lizard Skin or just one of them. There is a cermic heat barrier, then a sound deadener. I believe he uses both Lizard products.

Lizard skin cermic and sound deadener.
Trunk still needs tweeking, stripes need shot, got to lay it down on the suspension but we're closer.

I wasn't feeling the color on first set of pics yesterday , but the more I look at second set of pics, the more I like it, it's pretty cool, just pray you won't have to match it later down the road. Are you planning to run those valve covers or going with something else?

AintQik
04-30-2010, 05:01 PM
I'll run em and see what happens. I like the retro look of them. The color grows on ya. It was part of the build from day one, I used it on a 911 and wanted to tweek it and use it again. It mixes and sprays pretty easy.

Just some horrible cell phone pics, I'm getting ready to move back to Jersey so things have been a little crazy. Trying to work out some issued with the front end. I't will be up soon. Stripes are actually the same color as the wheels but they too pop a little in the light.

Thanks, they were a last second change. Billy the painter calls me while I'm at a swap meet. Says RJ the stripe color just doesn't look right. After long conversations with him he knew what I was going for. It just wasn't happening. The stripes were bothering me. I did not want to introduce another color to the car. I went with my gut and told him to mix up some wheel color paint. The shop said thank god we were all wanting the stripes to be wheel color and everyone that sees the car says, "man that would look hot with gray stripes". I really like the way everything goes together.

Moral of the story is spend some time with your body guy and let him get a "feel" for what you are trying to do. He knew me and stopped when the car was not meeting my intentions. No way they can do that unless they get the spirit of the car from you. Too many shops just shoot a paint code.

I like the look, stance, very nice.

BTW keep the valve covers. Clean, retro look, makes the engine look like it is from the late 60's even though the internals may be modern.

...well, it sure seems you've got a great paint guy, ...the car is looking awsome ;)

BTW,...from the pics (even though I'm sure that color pops even more in the sunlight), ... the color looks very similar to my '68 (factory Teal Blue, L2 code)

nice build! what rims are those?

AintQik
05-25-2010, 05:37 AM
Thank you, thank you.

Those are Forgeline EV3. I wanted something a lil different and modern but still had a hint of a 5 spoke wheel. If you stare at it you will see it lol. Frank at Prodigy hooked me up. The Forgelines are really light and so far I've been very impressed with them.

I'll post some more updates when I get it off the trailer and back home. We're in the process of moving all my junk cross-country. Gotta love the military!

update? and did you move to macguire afb?

AintQik
03-10-2011, 12:15 PM
Update. Yes we did move to McGuire and I've been getting a little time on the car. I had to finish my dad's 50 before the 67 and that is done. I ran into issue with the suspension and after fighting with it for way too long I sold everything and am starting over. I'd like to thank Mark at SC&C and Luke at L&H specifically for spending way too much time on the phone with me. So, basically the car was apart, but after not liking the stance I poop-canned the whoel lot and am going with L&H spindles and steering arms, another set of control arms, Ridetech coilovers, a 4 link and Ridetechs in the rear. My electric window kit is on the way, as are my Procar Rallys and my Rick's stainless tank. Trying to work with New Vintage on a gauge solution. Going to skimp on interior (except seats) to facilitate getting it on the road. Wilwood 6 pots on the front worked out well, the 4 pots on the rear seem to be functioning. All is coming together.

It's been a long time and only slight updates. I've been paying the bills and my new Airforce job has me working a lot. Just finishing up on a customer's car so I'm back on the 67. Here's a few pics. The lines are not as tight as they should be but I'm a poor military guy. I still think she is beautiful. Spent some time spacing my factory center console up to clear the MGW shifter. All the suspension is now sorted, I ditched the leafs and welded in an Air Ride 4 link. Also used Air Rides new bolt-in coil over up front in lieu of the QA1s and so far I am very impressed. F Body Dave's front arms and L&H spindles fixed all my front end issues and I'm getting excited about finishing it up. My wife has given me the stink eye and said if I don't get it done right now she will kill me. She gets sick of seeing me work on other people's stuff only to let mine sit. I've got a spring deadline for Camaro Nat's. We will see.

Thanks! I'm hung up on gauges right now. With the T56 I need the electronic conversion box to run stock gauges. I think I'd like modern gauge features like the leds and dig odo, but I want them to look older. The New Vintages 1969 series look awesome and would match the car, but I can't get them in 5". Hoping they come out soon. They will do custom, but it gets pricey. I can settle for the 67 series or go with Autometer.

RJ,

One USAF guy to another... You will NOT go wrong with the NewVintage USA gauges! I love them! Look factory but work with the new-style electronic sensors.

BTW, love the color scheme on your ride!

As with everything else in my life nothing goes as expected. I have been temporarily assigned to DC. Everything has been dialed back, I missed the Nats, have a supercharger on order but no time to put it in, and the Camaro sneers at me. However, some good news. The guages are in and working. New Vintage 1969s in a custom 5" single face. Looks awesome. Carpet is in. Re-did the electrics and the lights, including the fearsome RS doors all work as advertised. It started. I've bled out the clutch and am working on the brakes. The motor sounds mean. It came with the car and was supposed to have come from a Nova that ran 11s at Bandimere in Denver. 11s in Denver are a tall order so I took that with a grain of salt. I have no idea what it is, none, other than its a BB with work and 66 Chevelle heads with work. I looked inside and it was new, so I figured it was worth a shot. We will have to see. I will post a short vid and some pics when I get back home this weekend.

Its easier now to list what is not done than what is. Getting exciting. Needs exhaust finished, door panels and final seat install, brakes and clutch tested, the fuzzies installed (can't seem to get them to work) and the headliner. When I look at that and realize its not that much I get stoked. But, hard to drop off a car at an exhaust shop when you are 160 miles away when they are open. It will get there.

Plus, momma is pregnant again. The hits keep on coming! lol
