View Full Version : Who has the best glass?

I recently received my complete glass kit from D&R Classic for my '67 Camaro, but was really disappointed. The windshield looks real good but all the rest of the glass has major imperfections around all the edges. I called them up, talked to a gentleman named Jake, and discussed the problem. He said they haven't had any complaints but when he looked at his glass supplies, he confirmed my concerns. Every piece he unwrapped had the same imperfections. He is working with me to get it corrected. In the meantime I wanted to assemble my vent window assemblies so I ordered a pair of vent glass from Rick's 1st Gen. I now have the same problem with them. Seems D&R supplies their glass. So now where do I go? All I want is clear glass with no date codes and preferably no logos. A smoked tint would be nice but I have already resolved to the fact that I will probably have to have them tinted. Anybody have any websites I can look into?

I bought my glass fron..
Auto City Classics.. http://www.autocityclassic.com . I was very impressed, they were reasonably priced, and their customer service was excellent.

I also got my glass from Autocity. I believe it it is Minnesota if we are talking about the same place.
I put the smoked glass in my car and it fit perfect. I was shipped tinted by accident ( my fault , I said tinted and meant smoked) and they worked it out with no problems . So be sure to say "smoked " if you want a grey tint and "tinted" if you want the green look.
The vent windows worked good but they were just a little bit smaller dimensionaly. You can't notice if you pay close attention to the way you install them.
Prices were the best you will find anywhere and you probably won't find the smoked glass anywhere else.

Thanks guys. I will give Auto City Classics a call tomorrow. I assume the quality of the glass was perfect, that is to say no scratches or bug eyes, as this will be the third set I will have bought. This car is supposed to be at SEMA in November. Jim, what did you mean by paying close attention to the way the vent windows get installed?

The thing that stinks about complaints is, that if customers generally have a lower standard of what they think quality is, then there will be no complaints. They may not have sold enough first gen glass to get feedback. It always sucks being the first to bitch.
L00K forward to seeing it at SEMA

Since it is basically a triangle it can get shoved deep into the channel if you want to bottom it out. This will cause it to not be back far enough to cover the seal at the back edge as much as it should. It will work pushed in all of the way but it just doesn't look right if you remember at all what the original looked like.
It is not something to worry about , it is just one of the small details that will show up to the eyes of most of the people here but it always amazes me some of the details that people overlook.
When I saw the Alumitub at Sema I was very disappointed in a few of the details that were right out looking at you and they were really ruff in the finish. A few more strokes with a file and some sand paper would have made a big difference.
I know how it can be , When I painted my car I found a couple of spots where I recalled being so tired that I couldn't do anymore and when I came back it looked good enough to move on.
Be patient with the install and have fun. It can get real nerve racking when each time you move something one way it changes in 2 other places.

Frank(ProdigyCustoms) installed the glass in my car and got the best look at it. I'll see if he can pop in for a comment regarding quality.

Im taking it that the windshields from autocity are the correct thickness? Not the thinner ones that some companies have been selling? Im looking for a front windshield that is the correct thickness since there is a gap in between my windshield and the trim all the way around.

I kept the windshield I received from D&R Classics. It was perfect and they claim it is the correct thickness though I did not mic. it. Jim, there is nobody that is more of a perfectionist than me. It is somewhat of a curse. So if it ain't right it ain't going on my car.(regarding D&R glass). I am going to place an order from Auto City for the remaing pieces. $650 for every piece but the windshield in the smoke tint. Rick's 1st gen. is re-imbursing me 100% for the vent glass and shipping including the return shipping but still hassling with D&R over re-imbursment for shipping plus they want me to pay for the return shipping. I would understand it if it where my fault.

I didn't buy my windshield from Auto City Classics. I figured they were easy enough to come buy locally and I didn't need to risk it breaking in transit or paying to ship it.

I thought the glass looked just fine. I like the smoked look.
