While desperately searching for the best cam for my stock headed LS2, I read an article in GM High Performance that stated you could obtain a 90 horsepower gain by using Livernois Motorsport’s Stage I cam: 218/220 @ .050 .570 lift (114 lobe separation angle) and 100 horsepower gain using their Stage II cam: 232/236 @ .050 .600 lift (114 lobe separation angle) with stock heads.

Is this possible? Let me know what you think and I appreciate your input.

I would say this is very realistic. I have a cam from Thunder Racing in an otherwise stock LS1 in my car and could not believe the difference. If it's not making 100 more, it's making 110. These things like cams so don't be stingy with the lift and duration. Mine is 242/248 .608/.612 and it's easy to drive on the street. I drive it everywhere and got 14 MPG going to Del Mar with a TH350 and 3.73s.

My C5 gained ~100rwhp (340 to 436) from a mild cam (228/230) and ported 5.3 heads. The car had majority of the bolt ons, exh etc before the heads and cams.

Why did you go with the 5.3 heads over porting what you had? Did that raise compression by using 5.3 ones?

The 5.3 heads have smaller combustion champers, so they do raise compression.

i'd say those claims are overly optimistic especially with the smaller cam

238 242 .605 .610 LSA 114 works well in an ls2. with supporting mods i've seen over 440rwhp with that cam

Keep in mind those gains in the GMHT magazine are flywheel gains...

Does anyone have a cam they would suggest for a carb'd LQ9 with stock 317 heads? I have called Texas Speed and they would not suggest anything based on it being carbureted. Would like to also have a rough idle and not have to fly cut pistons.
Thanks in advance!
