For those of you who have sprayed HOK paint, how did you like it?

I'm looking at going with their paint because the local paint supply house that carries Dupont paint is just absolutey sky high on their prices and there's no where else for me to shop around.

I'm looking at having my car painted with the PBC43 (Black pearl) and was looking at their material ordering sheet and noticed that for a ground coat, they list the KO Seal II but then also say to choose either black (BC25) or white (BC26). I know the KO Seal comes in three different colors (Black, Silver and White) so do I need another base coat or can I just use the black KO Seal for my sealer?

I won't be spraying the car myself but will either have a friend do it or will take it to a local paint shop that has a booth to spray it. However I will be doing all of the primer, body work and block sanding.

Thanks,

HOK is fantastic. Very versatile. You can do either base for the PBC. I'm not a big sealer guy, so I would base it in bc25 then the PBC. If you want to use the KO, use the black.

Cool thanks.

What about their DTM primer? I was trying to find whether or not you can do your body work on top of it or not but their instructions make it sound like you should do it under. However I was under the impression that you wouldn't want body filler directly on the base metal?

I've never done bodywork over that primer. I still do it directly on the metal. Until I have an issue, that's how I'll continue to do it. You don't need to use the HOK primers, unless you want to. I've used a few different high-build and epoxy primers and have never had an issue with compatibility. You might be able to save a couple bucks by doing it that way.

Do you have any suggestions for an epoxy primer that's fairly inexpensive?
My local paint supply store (Carquest) wanted almost $200 for a gallon of Dupont epoxy primer. Obviously I don't paint for a living so maybe that is a good price but I thought it was a bit steep. Especially since I know they are the highest priced parts store in town.

I have a gallon of Mar Hyde 2K high build urethane primer that I am going to use on the car as well. I've read though that you really should put an epoxy primer down before the high build however my neighbor that paints cars says he usually doesn't. Is an epoxy primer nessecary before the high build or is it just added insurance?

Added insurance, IMHO you don't need it. I used this on the last job and it was much better than the 2k(which I also like).

Much easier to sand. It says you can use it over bare metal, but I'm a big fan of etch primer. If in a cost pinch you could skip the etch and use this.
