HELP!
David and I have hotels booked for every stop in the One Lap of America except for Gateway International Raceway in Madison, IL. It's been ten years since I drove through the St Loius area I'm drawing a huge blank on the best (ie most convenient) place to stay.
We have to be at the track for 8 am at the latest so morning traffic might be an issue (?) and we're going to be coming in off I-44 to I-55 to the track.
Any suggestions? St. Loius side? Further down I-64?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks
James and David

I would suggest somewhere in/around Collinsville or Fairview Heights, IL that way you could get to the track in 10-15 or so minutes.. The track itself sits just east of East St. Louis...nuff said! I wouldn't suggest downtown St. Louis although that would be a short drive too. If you stay along 44 on the STL side you will run into traffic in the morning trying to get to the track.
I've been meaning to email and offer up any help while you guys are swinging through. Let me know if you are still looking for any coverage as you come through town. I can get you into a couple shops, if needed. I will be working so I won't be readily available but just a phone call away to help you guys out if you're in a bind.

Thanks Tim - that is exactly what we were looking for. I had seen a Comfort Inn down that way that looked good but wanted to get some feedback from people in the know before booking it.
And we appreciate the offer - any help that we can find is one less thing for us to worry about while we are on the road. It's amazing the peace of mind that a name and number brings when you're away from home.
Cheers

No problem glad to help anyway I can. Looks like from the schedule you will have a short night from Tulsa to St. Louis. If you need anything along the way please call. I will PM and email (
[email protected]) you my cell number.
Best of luck guys!

If you don't mind spending a few bucks and need something to do at night. Just a few miles from the track.

A stones throw from the Arch grounds and lots of bars on the river front (Laclede's Landing)

That sounds great Rick but Monday is going to be a long day... we start at Hallett on the road course (one run in the morning and one run in the afternoon) and then head to Tulsa Raceway for some quarter mile fun and then have a 400 mile transit to get to St. Louis. I think we'll be lucky if we make it to town before 2am...

You definitally don't want to be to close to the track. Ghettooooo....
I'd use Tim's advice, and avoid downtown at all cost.

Ditto on the above statement. Really rough.
