I'm sorry what I meant was, has any body put one or planned to put one in an older muscle car. The Toyota was an example. I coundn't find the late model Pontiac on Youtube with one. What do you all think about the concept. In theory if it were removable and the dash had a radio delete panel or a vintage radio you could have a stock looking interior. Then whip out your ipad and be as cutting edge as it gets.

You already have pocket dyno and other apps for the Iphone....

In the near future hidden WIFI/Blutooth modules could be built with wires to the windows, HVAC, lights, wipers, boost, nitrous controllers and programmable ignition modules which could all be controlled by apps designed for the Ipad.

Not to mention sat nav, films, email, net, music, TV, newpapers, hotrod magazine. I guess you get the picture.

The Ipad has just made every windows "Carputor" obsolete.....

I like the idea as long as it is done cleanly- the toyota is a good example of a pro install- I'd say go for it- but I think it would be hard to maintain the "stock" appearance but that doesnt bother me

a mac carputer would be a better idea

I personally think that using an ipod touch/iphone would be better if you're going for a stealth system. I'm working on setting mine up to integrate pretty deeply into my car, tying into the engine using a thingy that broadcasts information from the ECM to my iphone via OBD2 and then wifi, and I know steve rupp is using his as his only music source--he connects directly to an amp from the itouch, no headunit--so it can definitely be done.

Unless you're big on the bigger screen--then the pad obviously makes sense.

You are putting alot of faith into a phone to intergrate into your engine computer there would have to be alot of test for me to do this I know guy all the time accidentl resync there iphone to itunes and it wipes out some of there data on the phone ie apps what would you do in order to maintain to programing on your phone or am i overthinking this and you just want it to recieve signals from the ECu to your phone not vice versa?

Current plan is just to use the phone as a datalogger/combine the gps and engine data as a budget racepak of sorts, pulling throttle position etc and mapping it against track maps and gps position to generate maps of how I drove what part of the track where, etc. Oh and to keep track of codes etc. and operate as a secondary set of gauges.

Definitely not trying to use the phone AS the engine ECM. I had the opportunity to see what a ground-up custom ECM takes when working on an engine dyno cell, and no way I'd trust a phone to do that. The guys who designed the software spent something like 3 years writing the code for it--I'll just trust GM's programmers and stick with a tuned stock ECM.

maybe someday we'll have the processing power to run something like LSXedit on an iphone, but that's gonna take some time.

I knew it wouldn't take long. It's not used to control the car but if MSD allow you to programme from the ipad instead of a PC then sky's the limit...

Nice find. I'll keep an eye on this, maybe by the time the Ipad 3 is out I'll dive in!!!!LOL

Just another reason for someone to break into your car if you ask me.
