On my 70 Nova I thought it was my Slide A Links causing the banging bottoming out feeling on bumps, bridge transitions, and even the occasional manhole covers. I removed the slide a links and still have the same issue. How do I tell if the shocks are bottoming out or if they are topping out, meaning they dont extend enough and cause the bang?
Thanks.

Is it hitting the bump stop? To check the shocks put a zip tie on the shaft and when the shock compresses it will slide up to how ever much it compresses.

Thats one of the better tips to check shock travel. Cinch the tie wrap down tight and go for a ride. Then take a looksee. Cheap, and easy. Good tip. JR

can you measure the shock travel to full compression. if so, compare that to the distance to the bump stop. You should hit the bumpstop first and compress maybe 3/4" before the shock bottoms out.
you can always figure out a way to lower the bumpstop so you make contact sooner so nothing else is bottoming out.
