Alright guys..

I have a fella that wants to trade me his Chevelle and cash for my Bonneville.. im not really sold on this car but i do like these particular Chevelle years.. and im looking at it as a possible mild PT car or good start on a resale.

im not having a hard time getting rid of my Bonnie at all.. i guess im just entertaining the idea..

he also said he can have it painted a solid color, but im not sure how solid the car is rust wise..

Heres how he describe the car... hes in Mississipi.

Big Block 1972 Chevelle
Pump Gas 496 BBC, T400, 12 Bolt

Street/Strip 1972 Chevelle,
Pump Gas 496 BBC, Scat Crank, H-Beam Rods, 10:1,Hyd. Roller,
1.7 Roller Rockers, GM Oval Port Heads, (Mild Port/Int.Cleaned Up),
Holley Strip Dominator Intake, BG 850 Carb, Billet Dist, MSD 6AL,
MSD Blaster Coil, Magnafuel 500 Pump, #10 AN Line To Ft., Magnafuel
Regulator, All AN Line, Fuel Cell In Trunk, Moroso Oil Pan, Super
Comp Headers, Crank Case Evac, All 3" Exhaust Out Rear,TCI T400,
Trans Brake, Rev.Man Valve Body, HD Drum, X-Clutches, TCI 3500 Conv.,
AB Plates, HD Driveshaft, Driveshaft Loop, 12 Bolt, 35 Spline Moser
Axles, 5/8" Studs, Spool, 4.10 Pro Gear, C-Clip Eliminators, Billet
Yoke, Boxed Control Arms, Aerospace Ft.Disc, Rear Drums, Weld Draglites,
Dzues On Fiberglass Cowl Hood, Hot Rod Flatz Black With Flames,
Smoothed/Painted Firewall, Painted/Detailed Ft. Susp.,Stock Black SS
Interior w/New Carpet, ARC Switch Panel,Grant Wheel, Hurst Qtr.Stick,
Rear Batt.Disconnect, Aluminum Radiator, Elec. Fan........

I've Probably Put Aprox. 1500 Street Miles On The Car Since I've Had It. (Car Shows/Cruise-Ins, ETC.)Took It To Cruisin' The Coast Last Year & Probably Put 400 Miles Or So On It That Week.It Is A Street Car, YES Streetable. NOT A Jump On The Interstate & Drive On A Vacation Road Trip Or Every Day In Rush Hour Comfort Cruiser. But It Is An Around Town, Country Back Roads, 2-Lane Hwy. Driver Street Car Thats A Blast To Cruise In For The Weekends ETC. The Only Real Limiting Factors (In My Opinion) Are Lack Of W/S Wipers, 4:10 Gear & Full Spool....

The Car Had Been A Heads Up Car In TX. (Clash Of The Titan's R/S)
Interior Was Bare (Previous Owner Had Removed Cage, ETC.)
I Put In SS Interior (Original But Good Cond.) From A 70'SS Chevelle
(Door Panels, Buckets, Console & Rear Seat) w/New Carpet & New
Pkg.Tray. I've Never Had The Car On A Lift Or Really Gone Over It
With A Fine Toothed Comb & Really Picked Over It. As Far As Body,
It Is Hot Rod Flatz Black, With Flames. Airbrushed Skulls In The Blue On
The Nose. The Flames Are Barb-Wire Stitch Outlined. It Does Look Like
It's Had A R/R Lower Qtr.Replaced @ Some Time & Wasn't The Best Job In
The World. My Opinion, (Included A Couple Of Pics Of It)The Car Is A
Great 10 Footer. Looks Great But You Could Nit Pick It. It Was Originally
A Race Car & That Does Show Some If You Really Look Close & Pick Over It.
Blemishes....
It Has One Small Spot On The L/F Fender Smaller Than A Finger Nail.
R/R Rear Of The Fenderwell Has A Place Aprox Size:Length Of Your Palm,
On The Lip Where It Looks Like A Tire Had Come Off @ Some Time.
Roof Has Some Scratches Where The Lift-Off Hood Has Been Placed On The Roof.
Thats Pretty Much The Overview Of Any Negatives Or Issues. The Qtr. Is The Main
Thing I See But It's Not A Must Do By Any Means. Hope It Dosen't Sound To
Destructive Of The Car Just Trying To Be Thorough.
Other Than That, It Does Have Manual Brakes.

My Bonnie is setup well and can drive to Mars and back.. it could still use small metalwork(being that they dont make replacement sheetmetal for her yet) but thats about it.. interior is clean, bay is okay.. etc..

what do you guys think?.. check the Poll.

and If i do take it as it sits, how much cash should i ask for on top of this car? my car im asking 15,000.

and if anyone is in the Ms AL area that can take a look at her for me pleaaaasssee let me know!!!

thanks guys!

I say no way. Bonnie is the cruiser. Once Venny is done you won't need/have time for the Chevelle. The Bonneville will alsways be usable.

OR a reputable shop(friend of mine) will put in my LS7 and make it run, and i wont have to buy the accessories(my LS7 is a longblock.)

STRAIT across Trade..

poll added on that one too.. check if you think that one is a good route.

So, you already own the LS7 and he's just going to install it? That doesn't seem like 15k worth of work to me. I say keep the Bonne, she's beautiful man.

Mr.VENGEANCE
04-14-2010, 08:44 AM
Yea i already have the LS7

its missing all the accessories to make it work other than Motor mounts..

no gas tank, no radiators, no (small) drysump tanks, nothing.. just the longblock.

I wouldn't do it. Too many unknowns. Who knows what is really inside that motor?

I guess if your dying to have a drag car, but otherwise no.

Nah after looking my vote would be keep the Bonneville, the Chevelle is at best a $5k car, my buddy paid $6800 for an all original 70 Malibu 6cyl in near perfect shape, then put a big block in it now HIS car is worthy of a straight up trade or you footing a little cash, if he wants the Bonneville he would have to brings at least $10k or more. Its just not there and I can see from limited quality pics the quarters will need replaced ad well as lots of other things.
Pass would be my thought.

Another one for keeping Bonnie.

I likes it.

Two words, HELL NO. That Bonnie is frickin' gorgeous. The Chevelle looks like a collection of cheap/used/swapmeet parts. It'd be cheaper and easier in the long run to just drop a big honking graveyard 455 in the Bonne until the LS7 comes around than fix the problems that velle is GOING to have. It's flat black for a reason, I can see the rust on the quarters even with that .005 megapixel camera he took the pics with.

I would say 8k and the bucket for your car then you can sell the bucket for another 7k-8k and you come out ahead.

Here's the clue that he's hiding something:

I've Never Had The Car On A Lift Or Really Gone Over It
With A Fine Toothed Comb & Really Picked Over It.The universal response for when you get it home and find it is a rust bucket.

Yet he knows all the engine specs:bsjerk:

Besides, that Bonneville is sweet.

No way. I'm a Chevelle guy at heart but since you already have your two Camaros, there's no way I'd give up Bonnie. You've got a street brawler already, no room for another. First off, it's a 72, which is not going to help your ability to flip it for profit. Secondly, from those pictures I'd bet good money that thing's a rust bucket. Third, 1982 is calling, it wants the chevelle back.

Trade for at least 8k plus the bonnie

Gitter Dun

Thats a tuff one, hot rod and play money. It would definitely depend on how much play money but I do need to say that Bonnie is sweet. I think you can always pick up a hard shell chevelle for a decent price, but a convertible Bonnie that clean? I'd keep the Bonnie She looks like a sweet cruiser.

The Bonnie is cool.

Let me know how long it takes to get the top down on that Chevelle. (If you're a fireman, maybe 2 minutes).

There also may be some Bubba engineering going on there too!

where in mississippi is this car? I would keep your car you already know what you've got with it. the chevelle will probably be full of surprises and not good ones.

I could use that ls7 if you wanted to trade for a 455 from a 442 olds

There is clearly some rust in that rear quarter shot. You know what you have with the Bonneville and it is a beautiful and unique car. It always pops up in my craigislist searches in Birmingham and I think it is extremely cool.

no way man... your bonnie is a nice car and that chevelle will give you nothing but headaches...

buickfunnycar.com
04-14-2010, 07:49 PM
I had a real clean '72 El Camino and I can tell you like the Chevelle's,'72 is the least desireable year and that car just screams 1980's...yes it can be painted but a 1970 it's not...sorry to any 1972 owners, just keeping it real.

Your Bonneville is super sweet,great-sized american 'vert with classic styling...not a chance in hell I'm trading that car straight up for a '72 Chevelle...and it would take a whole bunch of cash too.

mc84_zz4
04-14-2010, 08:03 PM
Absolutely no trade. That Chevelle is a bondo queen, just by looking at the pass rear fender.
I would not have him try to paint another half-assed paint job on top of all that bondo, that would be worse.
Terrible pics too, cannot see all the ripples in the fenders, door, etc.
Keep your Bonnie!

tonykim
04-14-2010, 08:07 PM
yep this chevelle looks to be a bondo queen. first tip is the flat black paint. great attemt to hide all the bubbles but you can see some of it even in the low res pics. don't do it. this car looks like a nitemare to me. your bonneville is a super sweet ride and very unique.

04-14-2010, 10:57 PM
That Velle is junk! you can see the gallons on bondo in the rear 1/4. If he showed you that side I wonder what the other looks like . Yikes! The only way I would trade Bonnie is for 12,500 boot.

As for your "freind" and his deal... there is a shop up on 400 that will finish the ls swap for about 7k. That includes everything . 100% turnkey.

Tote.... I would entertain the idea of the LS7 swap (for Venny). Add up all of the costs involved (maybe talk to Frank and see what he thinks it would cost) and then see if it is in the range of what you want out of the Bonneville.... if not, I would try to sell it straight up.

Good luck bro. See you in a couple weeks at the Mitty!

Yea, I don't know why everybody thinks that you're putting the LS7 in Bonnie......

Do you want to keep Bonnie or are you getting bored with her? If you're getting bored with her, I'd trade her for the LS7 work if it is about the same value.

Mr.VENGEANCE
04-15-2010, 06:01 AM
It aint hurting me to keep her.. matter of fact id rather keep her..

but my homeboy has a hardon for the Bonnie and offered a trade to put in the LS7.. i dont pay a thing.. hell make it run on his dime for her.

thats kindof a dilemma.. because 2ndgenhunters talking about a dude who can get one in for 7gs..

but it would break my mans heart i think... ahha

thats kindof a dilemma.. because 2ndgenhunters talking about a dude who can get one in for 7gs..

Is that 7k including all of the accessories that YOU would need for your long block? Seems like those accessories would cost you near 7k (dry sump, headers, intake, pulleys, ecm, radiator/fans, etc). Throw labor on top of that...... dayum.

I don't know man. That's a tough call. I've always loved the Bonneville. Wes and I talk about it all the time, how it's such a unique and bad ass cruiser....

If you don't wanna get rid of her, then don't. You'll regret it the next time you feel the urge to cruise with the top down. The only problem I can see with not getting rid of her would be funding.... but it's not my place to delve into that.

I'd say if you had the funds to finish Vengance, just keep Bonnie for cruising....
