View Full Version : My Cutlass Dilemma...

Okay, so I just recently picked up two separate project cars within the last month and I need help deciding which one to start on.

First one is a 1967 Cutlass Supreme Convertible body that is completely straight.. very little rust. original non-running 330 with th-350 (not sure if it needs rebuilt, but it does need a lot of extras). Needs obvious paint, all interior redone, weatherstripping, wiring...etc

Second car is a 1967 Cutlass Coupe...olds 350 with th-350. Runs great, great bumpers/chrome trim, all wiring is in order...everything works correctly, Cragar draglites in great condition...needs paint, seats redone, weatherstripping...and definitely more body work as this car has much more rust.

Now my issue as I can only keep one car and must sell the other. The convertible would obviously be a better investment but would require more money in the long run. Should I swap what I can from the coupe and put it all in the convertible (I.E. engine, carpet, bumpers, wheels etc) and then sell the coupe? I'd obviously keep the 330 and take my time building it. Or should I sell the convertible and put the cash into the coupe? It would never be worth nearly as much....but the convertible is definitely more work.. :(

Let me know! Thanks!

I'd say keep the one you truly want. If you like the idea of a convertible, then keep it. If a coupe is more to your personal taste, keep the coupe.

If you like them both the same, sell the one that will bring more money.

Just my own opinion, but don't keep a car based on its value unless you plan on it being an investment. Keep the car you will drive and enjoy.

I'd say sell the vert, you'll get more for it now that you can dump in the mechanically better coupe. I don't like verts though...

So one vote for coupe, one for vert, and one for whichever I prefer Haha. I appreciate the opinions! Keep in mind I'd never choose a car based completely on value alone but rather both cars have their pros and cons. I just don't want to regret selling one. If I had my way I'd keep both but I can't at this point.

I'm sure you are attached to your coupe, but if you could go back...would you choose a coupe or vert?

I would definitely go with the vert, but I am biased....

I'd go with the vert as well.

I'd vote for the rag top then ditch the olds power plant and put a modern lsx series engine and od trans in it.

Unless you have excellent body skills, I would think the coupe would be more money.

Remember this:
You can always put the top up on a vert, but you can't put the top down on a coupe.

ask yourself - if they were both sitting finished in the garage side by side which one would you grab the keys for? there is your answer

personally I'm not a big fan of convertibles i take one or two rides a year in one and that's more than enough for me - i just love coupes

I would swap the "great bumpers/trim" and anything else that is in great shape and keep the convertible. But I'm biased.

I wouldn't sell for value at all.

Keep the one that means most....

...and what's with ditchin' the olds powerplants?
