View Full Version : Which Rushforth finish for my color blue? Help!

I've decided on Rushforth Superspokes for my Camaro but I'm real picky about color combo's and want to nail it since wheels have so much impact. I'm leaning towards smoked titanium centers with brushed outers but can't tell for sure if there's enough contrast between the two. I want to do my bumpers and other trim in a brushed type finish to match the outers.
If I had it my way I think I'd like the centers to be a bit more charcoal greyish, like a graphite. My brake calipers are the C6 Z06 red, and I am going to try to leave them red and see how it looks.
The pictures I've seen of the gunmetal are too close to black for me. I've attached the best pciture I have showing my color blue in the sun and of a Rated X with the titanium/brushed combo I'm leaning towards.
Just looking for feedback, suggestions and pictures of this combo that aren't already on here. Thanks!

I hear you... I have been struggling over a combo for months. I just pulled the trigger on the brushed/polished Rated X's at the Pleasanton GG show a couple weeks ago to go on my black 69 camaro.
Check out these though. I saw them at the Pleasanton GG show a coule years ago. East Bay Musle Cars built the car and from teh first moment I saw it I thought they combo was bad a$$. The pics dont do them justice. The flat black and brushed look awesome.

I think you'll really like the smoked titanium with your color blue.
It does not make the blue grey-out, and tones down the wheel center just enough. (I prefer the anti-bling myself)
I prefer black centers on a lighter color car(white, red, silver, yellow, etc); dark charcoal centers the same.
On a dark blue car usually a lighter center such as the smoked titanium look best, or a light silver but not too bright either.
JMHO.

Erik,
Tough choices. First you agonize over what style wheel, then you have to decide on color. That being said I just went with Rushforth Night Train and the smoked titanium centers. I agree with you the charcoal is way to dark, but the titanium will look good against your blue. I had my outer trim polished so that my choice over the brushed. I think it helps the centers stand out more.
Good luck.

Since your brushing the trim, I would do the smoked titanium and brush lip with that color. very aggresive.

Thanks a lot for all the input and pictures. I've defnitely decided on
the brushed outers. Now if I could just see a good example of the
gunmetal. The only picture I've found was real grainy and not on a car.
Mr. Rushforth, how about adding a medium charcoal/graphite powder coat in the same sheen as the smoked titanium?
I need to get them ordered, just got my Kore3 kit installed but have to leave the brakes off 'cuz I only got 15" wheels to put on it right now.
If anyone has a good pic of the gunmetal finish please post or send to me.

Erik,
The smoked titanium is lighter then you think. The above picture with the blue 69 shows it well.

Man, the smoked titanium looks much lighter on the blue car than it does on the black one......Got to just make a decision. :hammer:

I think the titanium varies some set to set, since it is basically a tinted clear powder

Smoked Ti with brushed hoops, brushed will match the rest of your trim.

1. Brushed center/Polished lip
2. Ti center/Polished lip
IMHO, your color blue needs something to make it pop. Going brushed hoops makes the wheel fade in the overall presentation...

Anyone with the gunmetal?
I have to go with some of the other guys, the brushed centers really contrast nicely against blue because it's bright not subdued just like your blue. If it were a deep dark Navy blue, I might go Smoked Titanium but a bright blue like yours deserves a nice bright brushed center with polished lips but that's just my $.02.
If you see a finish you love, you'll love it on your car.
Regardless, we're ready when you are and will be glad to bounce ideas and opinions around on the phone.

Exactly...it can look darker or lighter...depending on the color it contrasts.
If that were my car with that darker Blue,I would be leaning towards gunmetal centers just for contrast but smoked titanium would look right at home there too...to me,those should be your two choices for the centers.
The fact that you are going to brush your bumpers and trim makes the brushed hoops a no-brainer,ties it all together.
Look how dark ST looks against yellow in cloudy conditions...

I have to go with the Brushed centers polished lip. I have all polished on my Centerlines and love it. Medium to light blues really need a brighter wheel!

Can't argue with that logic one bit,Blues and chrome/polished metal go hand in hand:yum:...but if he's gonna brush his bumper/brightwork,don't you think polished hoops will clash...?
but if he's gonna brush his bumper/brightwork,don't you think polished hoops will clash...?
It won't clash because they're essentially neutral finishes and brightwork never really clashes with anything especially when used in a small amount. Think of a polished lip on a late model sportscar. Most of them don't have a stitch of brightwork but it still looks nice and gives just a little pop. If you really prefer a much more subdued look, brush the entire wheel.

Guys, lots of great thoughts here. Thanks so much. As much as I like and agree with the polished with blue look (just look at the blue shoebox Nova on Rushforth's site) I'm leaning more towards the more subdued all business look of a less bright finish.
This combo http://www.rampbossusa.com/Media/PhotoGallery.html
is what got me thinking about a gray wheel. While this blue is a bit lighter than mine, I've seen one of these on our lot at work and it really pops.
Thanks again everyone. Looking forward to being able to put some pics up.

That photo makes your logic hard to argue with, Erik. Mean car with mean wheels!

Not my cup of tea. I think the whole dark wheels thing has gone a bit overboard. But hey, if you like it, that is the only vote that counts.

What is color is that blue on the 69? What wheel sizes are on the 69 as well. This is the look exactly how I want to do my 72 Nova.
Couple more smoked titanium examples for you.

Well I pulled the trigger today on Super Spokes with titanium centers and brushed outers from Frank @ Prodigy. That new Black Diamond finish didn't make it any easier though. Now the wait begins.
Thanks to everyone for their contributions, I will post pics when I get them on.
