Toyota and Honda were the big winners in "Cash For Clunkers". We were only a minor player.

So what? It did what it was designed to do. It boosted our economy and an ally's market (even though I would have liked to have seen domestic restrictions, but wouldn't that be interfering with the market?).

We're going to get in on an unparalleled growth in the automotive sector not seen since the 60s.... or 70s, even. I wish America could make more investments like this.

Yeah Obie slipped, he should have mandated that the CFC program was only available on GM products.

It seems like they are taking out loans to pay off loans. Does that really count?

It is good to know you are paying attention to this too.

I find it very amazing how the banking and auto industry could not make enough money in profits to not go under yet in these hard times when profits are supposed to be low, they can repay the loans ahead of schedule. Where did the profits go before these companies were being watched? It would seem obvious that the profits were always good enough to make it and someone was spending them on something they shouldn't have?

Or are they just stealing from someone else now to pay it back? Or are the ones who stole it all giving some of it back to stop persecution and prosecution?

It is still not transparent like they said it would be, it is just like the media to keep molesting the truth/lies to keep us divided and confused.

I don't believe most of what I read and what I see is not the same as they say.

I feel we are all still being scammed.

Everyone is complimenting Ford on being financially responsible, while they borrowed to the limit right before the banks could not loan anymore. GM has to go to the government (I am not condoning) to stay afloat with government backed loans, GM starts to pay them back early and still GM is evil for getting out from under the Obamanation as quickly as possible. It just makes good business sense for GM to borrow where they can to get out from under this adminstration stupid control.......wouldn't you? GM is trying to build a better business model than lets say Amtrak.

Yes so they can be held liable instead of the taxpayer.

My concern is different.

I could care less about them paying back Obama to get out from under government control. I worry about them failing financially again, and still finding a way to go out of business again.

If they are borrowing from another source to pay off this loan early, and they default on this 'new' loan, due to some unforeseen circumstance or just low sales or whatever, I doubt the new lender(s) will be as concerned about them going under. I don't know if the govt would rescue them with (borrowed) cash again. It wouldn't be pretty.

But, if they can get it together enough to make it all work financially, and do so ahead of schedule, I applaud them. I want to like GM, since I like their product. It's up to their management. If they make great cars and trucks, they'll probably be fine. Someone needs to make things happen over there. It's time for a hero, and I hope they've got one.

It only changed the timing of our markets. Sure there were people who bought that might not have, but mostly it ended up taking money from one quarter and put it in another quarter (in terms of financial quarters) - and it removed part of the economy (used car sales. Ultimately over the course of a year it likely had little net effect.

Whitacre's an ass. None of us are happy about this and the stupid banner in north lobby served to only ignite people's rage. He's just another example of how some rich guys think everyone's an idiot because they don't have money.

Half the American people bought into Obama's BS and he got elected. Why should GM be any different?
