I think Tyler was planning to have them on 50/50. If my memory serves me, they had even gotten so far as to build in the mounts and whatnot into the tube frame and body.

We use them on our race cars. I'll see if I can get a link from the prep shop. Might be tough to cleanly install in a car that has a full interior.

Didn't Art Morrison or Alston used to have them for tube chassis cars? They would probably be to light weight but you never know.

Those are exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks

Any idea what the stroke is on the cylinders you use?

12" IIRC they added 85lbs to a Miata. It is down low though. It requires a lot of additional structural support. The cylinders are over 14" long.

Seems like extra expense and weight for something just to be "cool" on a street car.

Yea...
The last few rides I have built have been pretty low will not allow a standard jack to access easy, plus I beleive I can build a complete onboard system for a fraction of the cost of a kit.

Nothing wrong with being cool too...:)

I remember reading that Smokey Yunick once showed up to a NASCAR race with those things in his car. NASCAR made him take them off.

Smokey was saying it was a safety thing as much as anything else. He pointed out that sooner or later a pit crewmember with the long jackhandle on the passenger side of the car was liable to get mowed down by another racer on pit road.

I think Smokey was saying this stuff before the 55mph speed limit on pit road. Might not need it so much now.

(But then again, a pit crewmember had to get killed in a NASCAR race to make that 55mph rule get enforced. Maybe Smokey was right after all.)

I think it makes some sense on a track car, pit crew safety or not. The jack weight would be down low & centered on the chassis and it would make the pit stops go faster.

Ironworks is building a 69 that has airjacks on it. It's the car that has the C6 drivetrain and radical body work

Yea I remember seeing some outlaw drag cars back in the day with air jacks. I remember them saying, hell they make me weigh 3400lbs, might as well be useable weight.

Here is the 515 GTB 69 charger air jacks in action. Normally it lifts the car up about a inch and a half off ground giving enough space for tire removal.
Here is a video I made of the Air Jacks in action. I needed more space to remove the transmission and created a sub floor to gain extra space using wood blocks.
Check it out!
