Hi all, I'm Rory, and I'm new to the pro-touring scene, and this site.

My dad's about halfway through his frame off resto on his '66 Vette Vert. Going with full custom frame that resembles the original with custom double a-arms front using stock spindles/knuckles and brakes, and inverted a-arm rear multi-link with four-link trailing arm set up and much more.

Just finished glassing in a set of NOS fenders fixing the previous owner's disco flares, and a set of bullet turn corners as well.

No pics yet, not to that stage.

Basically here to research wheels at this point. The chassis and all body and engine work is being performed at Ferdie's Classy Chassis here in Sparks by Ferdie and my dad. I'm making the finer decisions like wheel choice.

Last year I built a '60 VW Sunroof Bug with a pro-touring flavor. 17x7s all around, raked stance, Ford Estate green over cream and brown interior, and a stock engine as I'm a bit broke. Full body-off resto, all the nice bits right down to stainless hardware throughout. It's getting a teardown and full body (body off again) respray in the next year or two as I have not been happy with my first attempt at body work and paint.

I've also got another VW project that I'll be either starting soon or selling to pay bills. Waiting to see how the next few months pan out before I start anything on it. But plans call for four-link rear with coilovers all around using a heavily narrowed VW front beam with coilovers. Disc all around, a healthy tranny raise for drop with no camber, big engine, and the works. It'll be the first of it's kind - at least as far as I know.

Anyway, I'm here to do some research and track down a set of wheels that will look the part on a one-off pro-touring C2 Vert Vette. If you have any pics or ideas, pass them along, I'm at a loss.

Rory

Welcome Rory. You'll find a wealth of info on this forum. I use to live in Reno myself. Actually, I went to High School in Carson City, and graduated from UNR in 2001. I miss it out west, but the South is pretty cool too. Good luck with the project, and post some pics soon!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I don't know if I'm really at liberty to post pics - the vette's my dad's car, and it's up to him if he wants to car whored out.... but I may sneak some up one of these days :)

And, my next build is still in the planning stages - hell, I don't even know if I'm going to keep the car. My daily is giving me fits, so I think I might have to end up selling everything to get a replacement daily. I have a bike that I toot around on, so I still get the blood flowing. Haven't turned a wrench in months. After two body year-long body offs back to back, I needed a break. Not sure how long that break is going to last though.

Pics of my ragtop bug, though, that might happen, as I truly enjoy whoring that car out. Unfortunately, it's shunned upon by all VW types - the Cal Lookers don't like it because it doesn't have the run-of-the-mill wheels, instead it's on 17s which is the devils work. The volks rodders don't really like it cause it's a Cal Look type car. The purists hate it cause it's not OG. And, at the shows, it's dissed cause it's a semi custom that's not like every other car out there.

I tend to get more respect for that car from muscle car guys than the VW crowd, which is a rarity for us VW guys.

Nonetheless, none of that really matters, I built the car for me. Only thing I'd change is the color (current was picked by my ex), and perfect the body work as it's admittedly pretty shotty being my fist attempt at body work. Plus, it needs an engine.

Anywho, I need to find wheels for the Vette. Actually, I need to find someone willing to give me a price on a set of Rushforths, and some help determining what offset I need.
