Looking for a 1978 trans am that was either on the cover or in the mag during those 2 years roughly. car had a 403 olds motor w/ a turbo. black/ black w/ t tops. I would say 78-81 would be the year range I am looking to search. I am told it was during 1979 though.

any leads on the mag/ article/ or HR archives would be appreciated.

I see 9/79 has blurb on the cover for 'Budget 403 Hop Up' ... maybe it???

1979 was the last year for the big inch (400 ci and 403 ci) small blocks in the Trans Am and marked the end of the old school muscle car. In 1980, they went to a turbocharged 4.9 litre. While turbocharging a 403 seems like a terrible idea, (overbored siamesed cylinders leave little material for head gaskets to adhere to) I can at least tell you that it wasn't a factory car. It would have had to have been someone's personal experiment. Sorry if none of that was helpful.

Here's another Trans Am cover, but the car is brown with no t tops and a turbo 301.

Are you sure it was Hot Rod and not a similar magazine from the same era?

I'm pretty sure that I still have all my hot rods from back them give me a couple of days to dig them out. They're kinda buried by Camaro parts:hmm: and not very organized.
