Guys,
My car is a 1972 olds and I had a b & m floor shifter installed. I replaced the old cable and the new cable is longer than the orginal one. I have replaced the intake with a performer rpm,and made sure to connect the hard line which connects from my tranny to soft hose to my intake. The issue is I have trouble shifting my car. I put in reverse and give it gas and it doesn't move, I rev it and it then clicks and moves backwards. The same with going into drive it doesn't consistently shift unless I really rev it. The fluid level looks okay. The transmission kick-down cable was disconected when I bought the car, it has about 80 k miles on it. Any ideas before I take it to the shop of what could be causing this. I have TH350 tranny...

I'm going to be the cable is not adjusted properly.. .this is a pretty common thing. You need to make sure the cable is engaging the transmission fully into gear on the trans AND the shifter, not just the shifter clicking into place. The best way I know to make sure is to have the car up on stands or a lift, and have someone run the shifter through the gears while holding the button on the shifter, to see where the transmission detents engage as compared to where they line up on the shifter itself. Make sense? Then you can adjust the shifter cable to match.

If you changed the shift arm on the trans with the new shifter & cable, make sure it's the same length as the old one, or it will not line up in gear properly either.

Thanks alot for the information. I am in the process of relocating and once I am back in my garage I will try the above mentioned steps. How's the project for the cutlass coming? I often check up on it online.
