Now, finally, I understand why those guys won't sell their cars. The reasons may vary, but I understand now.
For me:
It doesn't cost me anything but a little space.
It's not rusting/rotting out.
I do stuff to it once in a while.
The biggest part to having a muscle car is obtaining one.
I've got one.
It's a dream of mine to have it running.
I've actually put a lot of time and money into it, some haven't, but most of the above apply to them.
No, it's not running. Yes, it needs quite a few parts and some work. But it's there and it will get done one day, and unless things go south, it won't be much longer. A few years maybe.

So, make a commitment. 1 hour per day, no matter what. I part per week, no matter what.

You would never know it took me 18 yrs to finish my car but it did.
It's the last few details and certain parts that really bring you up to date with the rest of the world. So if you concentrate on doing things that don't ever need to be upgraded or changed and get the basic roller done you can buy and put on current items.
Just keep at it and you will get there.

I bought my car for $500 when I was 17, took me about 2 years to get it on the road. Then I have done things to it over the years and now, 20 years later it is finally getting a frame off resto, by me. It is taking me a while, but hopefully if all goes well, it will roll out next spring in brand new condition, only genetically enhanced!

I bought my car in 87, put 160K miles on it, and then we moved. It started having trouble in 100* temps, so I parked it, began saving up for a crate engine, 9 years flew by, kids grew up, and now it's back on the road.
It's paid for, has cost less than most of my friends cars to upkeep and maintain, has been extremely reliable, and now it has almost twice the engine, it's a blast to drive my old friend again.
I drove my wife to deliver our son it it, and now he's looking forward to learning how to drive in it. I'm just going to have to keep an eye on those keys...

Well both me and my 14 yr old son got our Medusa done in 2 years. I saved n saved and then when we had all the parts for the current project, we got to work. My son actually rebuilt the current engine that is in Medusa.
