just wondering what I need to use the Z06 6-piston calipers with my 1979 Monte Carlo.

Already looked at kore3 and Flynbye but I'm not 100% sure what parts I need.

I got 18x8 BOSS 338 rims up front:

looks like I need to get that bracket and the z06 caliper for a test fit?
maybe anyone also got the boss 338 rims and could test fit on a z06? :)

You could help me with that?

Thanks,
-Kev

Kev,

Here is a link to the Kore3 fitment template:

http://www.kore3.com/downloads/fitment_templates/DOC0019.pdf

If you glue the template to a piece of cardboard and cut it out you can see if it will clear. Those calipers need a bunch of clearance. Most people have to either special order their wheels or run big spacers. Hope this helps.

Did this end up working for you?

I'm also planning on running Z06's w/ 338's...were you able to test fit them?

You will need a modified (tall B body or regular G body) spindle to mount the bracket to. Cut off the stock mounting ears, and enlarge & tap 2 of the dust shield holes to bolt the bracket too. Buy hubs, or machine off the braking surface of a set of discs & use them for hubs. Calipers, rotors, hoses, & probably a different master cylinder.

I found the B body dual diaphram booster & matching master cylinder work good. You can tell the ones that will work if looking through a junkyard by a "BW" sticker on the reservoir.

Or you can go this route for about $1000 & buy aluminum spindles designed to match those of the C5+ Vette to fit on the G body & alllow you to mount the big brakes just as they would on the Vette. You can get them short or tall versions.

And you will need steering arms, that are designed to eliminate bump steer, $250ish.

Kev, sorry to bust your bubble, but they won't fit. I have the same wheels, and the C6 Z51 calipers fit barely.

You can also call Tobin, Kore3, and ask. Pretty sure he could/know of a solution if you really are set on the Z06 calipers.

With the C6 Z06 brakes, the only solution I know of at this point is to run a thick center wheel designed for large brakes with significant caliper overhang dimensions or to run a higher offset wheel and artificially create that clearance with a spacer or adapter. The 18" Boss 338 wheel will require about a 1" spacer give or take in order to clear the C6 Z06 front calipers. You can download the fitment template here (http://www.kore3.com/downloads/fitment_templates/DOC0019.pdf) and see for yourself if you like.

And Tobin to the rescue.

Also, be thinking about where those wheels will put your valve stem in relation to the rotor and caliper. If you're not careful, you'll end up surprised that you have to take your wheels off to air up your flush valve stems.

thanks guys! I think I'll go with 13" C5 brakes in the future :)
