Magazines for Troops

A very good friend of my was shipped out this past Tuesday and it hit me harder than I thought it would. I have friends that serve overseas but none have been near combat roles or in country for that matter. I have always supported our troops but having a good friend on the front lines now hit too close to home. I would like to know a good place to buy and send soldiers subscriptions to magazines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. To those of you who serve or who have served, Thank you and God bless.

Go to his branch website Army, Marines , etc and ask them, also ask his family members for his overseas address, its not hard to keep in touch.

All you need is his APO mailing address. You can then just get him a subscription for anything you want. He should have that address shortly after arriving in country. He'll get stuff a little later than the rest of us, but it'll get there - and if/when he gets reassigned it's easy to change the delivery address.

People dont understand... we live off that stuff. Yeah you can buy your basic goods here- but its nothing like getting something from home. So if you need help tracking him down let me know-

I guess I should have clarified, I know how to get a hold of him, I was thinking more along the lines of the guys who don't have people sending them stuff all the time. I guess I was looking to see if there was an organization focused solely on sending magazines to troops.

Hey Chris, I wanna say thanks ;) I usually dont take that stuff- I try to pass it down to the younger troops... But Im not gonna turn down the free Fesler T-Shirt, LOL.

Colin, I know exactly what your talking about now- there are a few different Support a Platoon Programs out there. If you wanted to do just a generic donation I would suggest the USO or www.Anysoldier.com- But if you have an idea of where you want to send it (as far as what type of unit) I can help you out.

If everyone wanted to come together and send some packages or whatever I would love to get with the Unit Commanders and Organize some pics for you guys- Kinda show you the good your doing- idk just a thought

Im on FOB(Forward Operating Base) Sharana- you guys can Google it- its not too primitive. We have a small PX thats always empty and a gym thats really overcrowded. But not too bad, its what you call a "Black Out FOB" - no lights, not phones, no nothing after dark(6pm)- just a bunch of red and green flashlights dancing in the distance. Its a precautionary measure in hopes of cutting down rocket and mortar attacks. After 2-3 months you know everybody.

I dont want to get too carried away- but all this soldier talk is getting me excited. Ill try and post some pics Ive got hundreds, but Ill try and keep it brief.

You know homemade cookies, brownies treats always go over well. Let me swing by one of the units today, I have one in mind they have only been here a few wks but have already had one KIA. Ill will get a headcount and some specifics get back with you...

Alright Colin, went by a couple units yesterday and today, heres what I have. Dont get the wrong idea, Im not trying to commit you to anything- but if your interested here you go...

626BSB has close to 40 lower enlisted soldiers, but thats kind of a big order to fill-

3/187INF has a small detachment here, the platoon that lost the soldier only had 10 Joes to begin with and now they are down to 9- so I'm a little partial to these guys to be honest.

Both of these units fall under the 101st Airborne so if your sorority girls are up for it, let me know and I can shoot you some pics and give you some contact info- You can make it official and kind of sponsor your own platoon:)

You guys have no idea how great you feel to get something from home when you are far away from your family!!!
What you are doing is the best thing these guys can get :twothumbs and it means more then you can imagine. Current magazines, books, baked goods from home mean alot. Keep up the good work!

When I was in Kandahar I looked everyday for a package from home, it made my days over there, the job was tough but it is the best job in the world for me! I am hoping to return real soon.

Anything that gets to a soldier in the FOBs will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah Ill do that- I haven't been to KAF yet, I hear the food there is amazing :) LOL... No usually when I go out its just to the FOBs in our AO like Wazi, Rushmore, Ghazni, and Gardez. But it would be cool to talk cars with someone...

I am home right now awaiting for the doctor's note to return to work (screwed up my knee in KAF and a fall from the top of an airport crash truck and cracked 3 ribs) and it looks like it may be soon.

Man I am glad to be apart of this forum! I leave in a week from today for over there and it is nice to know that there are people out there that do respect and care what we are doing. Just the other day I was eating with my family and a stranger pick up my bill. This will be my first and I am really looking forward to it.
