Hello ,

I have been looking around for a set of somewhat cost effective 17'' wheels for my 55'' , and it seems I can get a set of 1997-1998 Camaro SS wheels , or some chrome Z06 corvette knockoff wheels at a dirt cheap price. Now the questions comes up what I will need to do to make them fit .:dunno:

The wheels on my car now are 15x7 B.Specialties with a 3 1/2 backspacing front and rear.

The SS wheels are 17x9 1/2 with a 5x 4 1/2 backspacing, and a 38mm Offset , and the Chrome Z06 wheels are 17x 9 1/2 with a 5 x 4 3/4 backspacing , and a 54mm offset.

I would like to know if their is any chance , without changing spindels and such , to make these safely fit on my 55'' ?? I have seen tri-5 cars on ebay and in magazines with late model wheels on them , so I am sure their is a way to make it work. Just need to find out how, and at what cost...Maybe some sort of wheel spacer / adapter is available ???

As usuall , all help is greatly appreciated.....:usa:

i think the wheels have more spacing than that, something like 6.5 to 7 inches, yes they can be bought for around 1000 a set, but by the time you buy spacer adapters it is pretty much the same money as budniks, etc

68PROTOURING454 ,

You are correct , the OEM wheels on 4th gen f-bodys , and c5 corvettes do range in backspacing from 6.5'' to 7''.

The wheels I am looking at are knockoffs , thus the different backspacing over stock. They are actually featured on Page 233 of the latest Jeg's mail order catalogue.

Just need to know if anyone has put something similar to these on their car , and how so.......

To run that wide a wheel on a Tri-5 will require you to move the rear spring hangers inboard. Doing so is hard work and not cheap, especially if you have to pay to have the work done.

USAZR1 ,

So you are saying I can't fit a 9'' wide wheel in the bcak without re-locating the leaf's ? Or I can't fit this wheel becasue of the backspacing ?

The whole issue I am having is trying to find the correct backspacing in order to fit a 17'' wheel on my car. Some people say 3 1/2'' , where others say 4 1/2''.

I would love to put a 18'' in the front , and a 17'' in the back , but i think I am going to stick with 17''s on all corners for now...

Keep the feedback comming , it is a big help :hail:

USAZR1 ,
So you are saying I can't fit a 9'' wide wheel in the back without re-locating the leaf's ? Or I can't fit this wheel because of the backspacing ?

If the rear suspension is still stock,an 8" wide wheel will be about all you can get in there w/o mods. Total Cost Involved makes a rear spring hanger relocation kit that will allow you to run a 10" tire & wheel.

The front and rear suspension is all stock , down to the leaf springs and factory open rearend. The only difference in the front is the addition of disc brakes.

So it looks like i can safely run 17x8's on all 4 corners. Backspacing is still the issue......
