so im planning on getting a detroit tru trac and installing some 4.11 i already have with my tax refund.
I have a 69 camaro original 10 bolt 8.2 inch with 28 spline. But i can find the tru tracs for every single other rear in existance except for the 8.2 10 bolt. Am i missing something here?
Does anyone know where to look?

The 8.2 has a smaller carrier than the 8.5 and other rear diffs so it is physically limited in size with regards to what it can accept.
Hey, are you planning on running or attending the RTTC event in April?

I'm not sure if the Truetrac is availabel for the 8.2, but the Eaton Posi is. That would be my choice for the 8.2 if the Truetrac is not available.

I just went through this myself and discovered that the 8.2 has very few parts available for it. You can get an Eaton posi but not a Truetrac. I also found out that the pinion bearings are much smaller than the 8.5 and everybody I have spoken too has recommended to upgrade to a 8.5 housing or a 12 bolt. The 8.5 uses the same pinion bearings as the 12 bolt and as long as you replace the axles, they are supposed to be almost as strong as the 12 bolt.
After doing some web research it seems that the 8.2 rear will handle decent power if you put axles in it too. A couple of guys reported 500 hp and their rears were still hanging in there. Super Chevy did an article about the 8.2 where they built one up for an 11 second Nova (check it out HERE (http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:jcCk-ae3LXkJ:www.superchevy.com/technical/engines_drivetrain/driveshaft_rearend/sucs_0827_chevy_nova_rearend_build/index.html+8.2+strength+rear&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a)) so it will work as long as your not putting a ton of power through it. I ended up buying an empty 8.5 rear myself (on Ebay), upgraded the gears and axles then installed a Truetrac. Either way, it costs about the same to upgrade an 8.2 as it does an 8.5, you just end up with a much stronger rear end with the 8.5.

Yea, I checked too and the Truetrac is not available for the 8.2. The Eaton is your best choice.

thats almost a two week paycheck for me!!!!
ive looked into the auburn gear for 400. how do the two compare. Ive always heard the eaton is superior. but im only putting down about 400 or so HP.

I would spend the xtra $$ and go with a eaton. Or get a rebuilt used on. Pomona or Long Beach swap meets usually have at least a couple.

I can help you out on the Eaton. Send me an email or PM. The Auburn is not weak, it's just not going to last very long and when it wears out it is scrap mettal.

Hi,
I suggest you change to the 8.5 inch 10 bolt. I put one in my 1968 Firebird, it was an easy bolt in from a 1973 Nova. I built the rear end myself with a Detroit Tru Trac 30 spline diff and 30 spline Moser axles. For a performance build the 8.2 is a weak foundation, a money pit. Search around the net and you'll find the 8.5" 10 bolt can be super strong. Guys running 10 second qtr miles on them. Early 1970's Novas have the correct width to bolt right into your Camaro. You want a 60.5" flange-to-flange, 29.5" axles. What I'm trying to say is you can dump alot of money into an 8.2, but it will still be an 8.2. Good luck.

The 8.5 is the same rear that all the Grand National guys use. I have seen some of them running over 1000 hp through this rear turning low 8 second quarter mile times. Of course they are running spools but at least it shows the capabilities of the 8.5....

Here is a good article. IMO I would look for an 8.5.
