Would have put this in the open discussion but figured someone would find offense so I put it here. Does anyone plan on using an AWD system like the one used here where you can switch between all well drive at take off and then switch to 100% rear driven.
pretty cool car
14.3 " brakes
1.6G stopping force
0-400 meter = 10.06 secs

If and when i ever get the money I have big plans for a system like that. and yes the Nismo Z tune is pretty intense. I only wish they had brought them over to the US.

I wonder if they plan on doing anything crazy with the G35 for the american market.
The ztune is the last of the r34's... and they went all out. As I understand in Japan they allow cars like that, just tax the poop out of them. Here, the emissions guidelines and what not don't allow that flex.
It is a cool awd system though.

Boring to look at, but from a technology standpoint it's a pretty cool machine. Is there anyway to bring one in gray market and register it as a 240SX? Uhh...no officer, as far as I know it's just a Datsun. :dunno:

I personally LOVE the skyline body... its sooo simple that it strikes me as sexy. and im a geek when it comes to technology so im all about the gadgets that this car has.
Chances are the G35 will just be a RWD platform there as well as here. I dont think they are looking to go AWD anymore sadly. And you can bring them into the states legally... but its gonna cost you a pretty penny... Motorex a compnay i believe based in Florida does it legally for like 80 or 90k car in clueded. There are probably other companies that do it too. You could always just import one in here on your own but the problem becomes then registering it. Not only for emissions reasons, (you can get around that depending where you live) but for crash test reasons. If you are trying to register a car that has not been crash tested in the states your gonna have trouble, but maybe you could register it as a kit car even though its a production based car. :dunno:

They are probably getting away with selling them like a couple places did with the McLaren F-1. They had to put some fuggly little bumperets, change to U.S spec headlights and remove the two out board passenger seats (F-1 driver sets in the middle). As far as I remember they did not have to do much to get the big Bimmer V-12 to pass a standard emissions test(then!). All the stock parts that were removed still went the new(VERY rich owner) so most got changed back asap.
Motorex had to get some crash tests done, convert to us spec gauges, doors, bumpers, and pass emissions (a little harder with many turbo cars). Motorex is based in California, but as I understand it they are out of the biz. There is another company in florida that is importing a lot of jap cars, but using some loopholes to get them in.
I wouldn't even want to think about hard it would be to adapt skyline awd to a PT car with all the electronics, sensors, and then fitting in whatever diffs and what not to work with american engines or trannys.

I also love the Skyline bodies. R34 is my favorite and these machines can really perform. If I remember correctly, this is their version of a muscle car like we look at our Camaros and Chevelles as muscle cars.

I was stationed in Japan for a year and a friend of mine was going out with a Japenese girl. She had an r32 gt-r v spec that was modded. That car was a rocket! Another friend had an r-30 Paul Newman edition (!?) that wasnt as fast with a smaller motor and single turbo, but still ran pretty good.

Im pretty sure the AWD system on the Skyline is integral with the trans. I think i remember seeing a pic of a Skyline trans and seeing two half shafts come out of the front of it and then a drive shaft out the back.

While I was stationed on Okinawa from 99-01, I had a `91 R-32 GTS-t with a full GT-R body on it (yes, someone actually swapped out all the body panels, including the wide quarters). Nowhere near the performance of a GT-R, but still a VERY fun car to play with. Just a little 2.0L single T28 RWD with a 5 speed trans. I actually brought the RB20DET and 5 speed trans back with me when I came back. It's sitting over in a friends' garage at the moment. Has been for a long time. My goal is to drop it in a 240 one of these days. But right now the 67 takes priority.
My buddy Rich, who was a civilian contractor for Dyncorp the same time I was over there, owned two (yes TWO) R-32 GT-R's. He had a white VSpec II, and a gunmetal grey regular GT-R. Both were extremely badass vehicles, even as mildly modded as they were. I wish I was at home right now. I'd post pictures of them.
Full RB26DETT front clips from GT-R's have plummeted in price over the last 5 years. People are dropping them in to 240's, utilizing the RB25DET oil pan and trasmission to make them RWD instead of AWD (since the AWD conversion on a 240 would be a PITA to say the least) and are making unreal power with them.
Yes, i'm a closet ricer. But only for REAL "rice". :geek:
