OK guys, this has been a tough week to pull all this together so quickly but time was not on our side. I have set up a new website that will serve not only as a registration spot for all events I put on, but will also cover the other ones that I attend with pictures, and talk about those events.
Please click here www.octaneforyourbrain.com (http://www.octaneforyourbrain.com) to register for the 1st annual El Toro event. The cost is $150. It will be April 2-4, 2010, so as you can see, the sooner you register the better. I am limiting the number of registrations to 65 cars, so please, if you want in, please register now. You will have a spot as you go thru the registration where you need to select which day (Friday or Saturday) that you want to run at El Toro. The first 30 that register on Friday will be locked in and the first 35 that register on Saturday will be locked in. Others will be moved to the opposite day, so register asap so you are guarenteed your choice of days. Spectators, volunteers and participates are welcomed both days, see you there.
We will also have a Vendor and Media Class running on Friday. Everyone will be invited for both days, but we can only get about 40 or so per day thru and be sure everyone gets to run. I will have a set of rules up soon. Also, we are trying to fill up the field with pre 80 cars first. Any one with a newer car will be allowed but if your car is newer than that, it will not be in the running for King of the Coast.
Besides the two days at El Toro, we will have a cruise on Sunday morning. Those details are now being finalized but look for a great time on Sunday also.
One other thing in this post before it gets too long.
Optima has stepped up and offered an invite for the winner to the prestigous Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge after SEMA this year, so you have one more reason to sign up soon. Having been invited to this last year, I can tell you what a thrill it was to be there and run with some of the best cars in the industry.
The prefered payment method on the registration site is Paypal, however, if you have another way you rather pay, just comment in the right section and we will do whatever. However, until your payment is in my hand, you are not confirmed as a participant. I hate to do that but it is the only way I can be fair to everyone concerned.

Thanks for wading thru this long post, Yancy, Danny and myself look forward to being your hosts and bringing a little Southern Hospitality to LA.

A little birdie told me about this event. I'm definitely interested in attending, if only for the cruise. The sign up page says March 4/5 but your post says April btw. :)

Paid for the car on Saturday..

I get to have fun and work. What's not to love.

And both Nick and I are in for the media challenge on Friday. Nick will be rocking his new 2001 Z28. I assume for Media it's a "run what ya brung" deal since quite a few of the editors have newer stuff.

Now to go look at more maps. :)

I understand the whole trailer fairy comments but you try driving 500 miles with 6 people, 2 coolers, 4 spare tires, 2 gallons of race fuel, 2 ton floor jack, 4 jack stands, a 6x14" loaded tool box, 2 lbs of beef jerky, a gallon of water, 2 folding chairs, a Hibatchi, bag of charcoal, this lamp, an old shoe and a lap top with charger cord in a pro-touring car 4 inches of ground clearence and 18 in rims.

Been there done that....I'll be loading my trailer thank you very much.
See you guys there...

But if we run out of room people may be able to drop trailers at El Toro.. Bill and Yancy would have to ask.

I am not the only one that feels this way and I am sure there are more than a few if not all of the moderators and supporters of the site would agree.
It is not if your car is up to par with the other cars, it is about having fun. I for one would not want to see less cars there becuase they feel there own car is not as cool or runs as hard as the top cars out there. If you have fun that is all the matters. There are always going to be the Jay Leno's and others with awesome cars, but just becuase you spend a million on a car does not make you a better driver than the dude that spent 10 grand on his. So I say pay the $150, go out and have a blast. You will be thinking the same thing half way through the day when you are out there watching.

My car has rust, dents, scratchs, chips, and all kinds of cosmetic crap that a show car guy would wonder why I even drive it. At least I can say I have fun with my car and I beat the crap out of it when I can. I didn't spend all this money to have it sit in the garage and rot away.

Let me clarify this statement a little. "
My Car is not in the same class as those running the autocross."

Since this show has a limited number of cars that can attend. I would not want to take a spot away from a car that would be more completive and have a chance of competing for a spot at the Optima show in Nov.
And being a Volunteer is sometimes more fun then it seems.

Chuck, you and anyone else is certainly welcomed to come help, I will need plenty of help. However, you should run you car and have fun at the event. From what I saw of your camaro, you will be fine and in good company. You don't have to be a 100K car to have fun or be competitive and once you get on the track you are a rock star anyway. I would love to see your car on the track. Plus it helps you know where your car/you need help.

The website was thrown together so we would have a quick registation. It will probably not get pictures until after the event. It will have rules etc. posted as soon as I can get them finished.
As for activities, we will have a road course, autocross and Speed/Stop Challenge for the $150 entry fee.

The cruise is open to anyone that wants to come, I just need to know about how many will be attending as time gets close.

Don't miss out on a wonderful weekend because you feel you are not competitive enough. Just by entering you automatically are entered into a chance to win a set of forgeline wheels. This is a door prize and only those entered can win--no vendor / sponsors eligible so some hard working individual will get $4000 worth of wheels. Plus this is a time for car nuts to gather and just have fun..

They are heavy (4300 lbs), and I havnt seen any cones in a Jensen yet (but Ive done a few good courses in my Dakota R/T, about the same weight...) so Im pretty ready.

There's going to be some pretty bad A cars out there at this event---Todd Akes is bringing Payback out
-Rupp will be there with Penny
-Brett in Velocity
-James in Onelap
Wondering about Ron DeRad and Larry---have they chimed in here yet?

Anyways, I can't compete with these types of outstanding top of the field cars yet---this will be my first official event--geez, I hope the King and Queen (Dave and Mary) will make their appearances as well---however, if this isn't fun, it's not worth doing--and what I hear Bill, Danny and Al stressing is that this event is a good time event with great people, vendors, and like Todd said, "A chance to run with my own kind" referring to muscle type cars. I've entered with a nearly stock motor in my ride, but it's going to be a blast--how could it not be? Don't make the mistake of not entering because of the 200k cars that will show up---they make it that much better. I mean really, how many chances do we all get to do this stuff? (Steve Rupp excluded here :worship:). This gives me something to look forward to over the next month and it is a great opportunity to meet more of my fellow PT enthusiasts. I hope any of you guys on the fence decide to bring your cars out---I don't believe you will regret it.

My Father has been shooting motor sports photography for the last couple of decades and has said he'd come down to shoot if we want him. His rates are very good, charges by the photo, and he prints on site, so you see the picture before you purchase and he can have you an 8x10 glossy before dinner.

Well, put off the posi purchase and have some fun with your car? If not, you'd better start budgeting so you can at least run the goodguys event in mid May (event fee plus membership fee.) See you at RTTC!

Guys, time is running out on this one. We have not had the response we had hoped for, SOOOOOO
we are changing this to a one day event, the cost is just too much without participation to hold it two days. This means we have about 15 spots left and then it is full so if you are planning on coming, now is the time to do it. We will be running all cars on Saturday the 3rd. IF this compromises your plans and you can not change from Friday to Saturday, I will be happy to refund your money.

Thanks guys, maybe next event we will have enough interest for a two day event.

Guys don't let the BAD PENNY INTIMIDATE YOU! It's only a car, just becuase you may not be able to keep up does not mean you won't have fun trying. Honestly I am thinking of taking my bone stock 68 Camaro just to show you all that I can have fun without all the pro-touring mumbo jumbo! This is the cheapest event I have seen and I can say truthfully I am excited to just hang out with a bunch of gear heads! I'm starting to think there are a lot more talkers than do'ers.

OK Chuck, we're short on cars; that's your green light to sign up!

My problem is that having fun is going pretty much all out. I should have a car pretty soon though.

Matt,
Thats the exact thing Im hoping to have all day a Big A** Grin on my face all weekend. When I rode with a few people last year, at GG Nashville and GG columbus in the auto cross, I had that Big A** Grin for the rest of the weekend. Since this "track" is bigger I can only imagine the level of fun.

Brett,
I looked on line lastnight and Hertz says the ZHZ Corvette is unavaible at the the Santa Ana air port location. Is there another Hertz dealer in the area? Hell even the Mustang they have to rent is a V-6.

Rental time! Hertz ZHZ Corvettes look pretty fun.

For Goodguys Del Mar last year we flew in to SD and had asked for some vaguely sporty but cheap something or other but when we got to the Hertz desk I asked what the smoking deal of the day was. Lady said that they had 13 something ZHZ's on the lot and asked if we wanted on of those? We got it for something like $68 a day. That was much more fun than the 6 cyl Mustang I took to the El Toro Evolution school in the spring (definately a mistake)... Rupp's rental, however, worked fine. :smoke:

I'm local to SoCal and want to participate in RTTC, but my car is in still in the construction stage. What are the restrictions on what cars we can run? I would assume my RX8 is out. Will you allow new cars like the Hertz rental corvettes to run? According to their website they are available on that date at Ontario Airport, which is not too far from Orange County.

Thanks,

Sorry guys, this event has added alot to my plate, but that is no excuse.
We cut back to one day, so we will have a full house I feel sure. We only have about 6 or 7 spaces left and people are signing up daily so for now, I would like for it to be 82 or older cars. That way we have true musclecars and don't need a year break. Next year, when we have this one under our belts, and have time for more cars, we may open it up to newer cars.

I'm an offical noob on this site as of today but I did register for the event. At least I think so based on the Pay Pal confirmation back on Feb. 18th, and like others I wanted to check and see if I'm 'on the list'?

I am not worried about Bad Penny or anything else as the idea is to have some fun, no. I hope there are extra points for tire smoke though as I live 20 minutes from El Toro and won't qualify for the long drive bonus.

I also have a shop space for people who might need to make repairs or weld or cut or beat on something.

OK guys, here is the official list of those that have PayPal me for entry to the event. A couple are company names, but I know who you are. If you have registered or think you have registered and don't see your name, contact me asap. If you count up the names you know we have 34 preregistered, plus we have 11 vendor/media entrys, so we only have 6 spots left if you want in.

Also remember, at this point there are only 34 names in the pot for the FREE set of Forgelines, pretty good odds if you ask me!

Are there any more spots open? Does the car need to be complete, i.e. nice paint job & interior, or can I run my mechanically sound car through its paces as well? Is there a safety check list that I can look at to make sure my car complies? Thanks in advance.

Yes, both are welcomed. I think there are two spots left now. I do ask though that there be only one registration per car, it gets tough to score one car with two drivers. If you have another car, sign up now, or you can simply share the ride at the event.

Hey Bill,

You need help with any of the logistics on this, Friday, Saturday or Sunday just let me know. I live about 15 minutes from there, so familiar with the area and can help.

Also might be cool to put together a Friday night kart deal at Dromo1 or K1 here in OC if anyone is interested. Many of the manufacturers get together and do this at other events around the country....... usually leads to some good smak talking and could be a good build up for Saturday. If anyone's interested, let me know and we can set it up.

Guys I gotta bow out. I just found out I won't be released from the hospital until the 26th. So that'd give me a little less than 2 weeks recovery before hitting the track. Its just cutting it too close. I'm getting a pain pump implant, so its a bit more complicated than just 'recovery' as well. I may respond poor to the implant, the meds etc, and the last place I want to be is on a racetrack adjusting to those meds...

The tire wear rating thing was a bit of a surprise as well. :(

If I'm feeling up to attending the event I will try to make it down, meet you all and shake some hands. But I think pushing my car to its limits with a new pain med implants just pushing the limit.

I need to focus on getting myself sorted, not my car for once.

Good luck everyone! I hope Bill can find someone to replace me.

Guys, The track area is closed at night and the entire area is patroled by Irvine PD. Once the gates are locked nobody gets in. In addition, they (Irvine) have patrols on the fence line around the entire base 24 hours a day. Should be nice and safe. I will let the area police helicopter guys working that side to keep an extra eye on you all. I will be working both nights a little north in Huntington Beach but can get there if you need an "air strike"!
