I have a stock L92 that I will be putting into my 68 Acadian(Nova). I plan on running a Mast Motorsports SS cam, their controller, Stainless Works longtube headers and a 102mm FAST intake with a 102mm Nick Williams DBW throttle body. With that set up, I hope to be around 550 - 570 hp. What I'm wondering though....would it be worth it to have my heads ported? How much of a gain would I see and what price range would I be looking at to have it done? Also, is there anyone that you could recommend, preferably in Canada or West coast if possible. Thanks in advance.

I think porting is anywhere from $800 to $1000. A guy who would know this answer would be Andrew Borodin. He has an L92 with stock heads and it makes incredible power. Tony Whatley would be another one to ask too. His username is Nineball.

I personally wouldn't do it if you're looking at already acheiving those numbers. 570 hp in a 1968 Camaro (3100 lbs) is flying dude. Flying!!!

The exhaust on L92 heads are their weak point. The L92 head is basically an LS7 intake port with an LS6 exhaust port. Porting them isn't a bad idea but may not be needed in this instance. I'd get in touch with companies like Advanced Induction and see what they say. Also, ask Mast. They build engines and can help you especially since it is their cam you're running.

wegner has a set of bare cnc'd heads on ebay for what i would consider pretty cheap. you could swap all your parts and be way ahead in price.

I'd jump on that. That's a damn good price.

Mike,

Let me know what you find out. I have the same engine and plan to go with the same cam (I think), controller and headers (I haven't decided on intake and tb yet). I have searched the LS1tech and performancetrucks websites and still haven't come to a solid conclusion. The more I research regarding the VVT, cam and heads for this engine, the more confused I get.

I think Mast offers a set of cnc'd stock for $1800 and then their Black Label 12 degree are around $3500.

Thanks.
Rod

Check out Total Engine Airflow if you want the stock heads ported:

www.totalengineairflow.com (http://www.totalengineairflow.com)

They have had their CNC ported factory heads on many, many record setting cars (and a lot of Trick FLow heads ported by them make killer power as well:)!

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I might end up leaving them alone for now. Once I have the project all done (whenever that is) I'll see what kind of numbers I have and will decide from there.

the funny thing was those wegner heads had a buy it now for $800 before the first bid, but sold for $845. could have used bing for another 8% off the buy it now. good for wegner though.
