ok guys my car (71 nova)currently has a sbc w/a t56 , i am switching to a ls/6.0 with l92 heads. i already have a a ats trans crossmember so i figured it would make sense to use the ats motor mounts ....but what headers will fit well with there mounts? there headers at 2k+ are a bit too pricey for me. I'd like either stainless or coated headers. thanks!!!!

We had some issues with fitment on a set of Edelbrocks a few months ago. I do not know if any adjustments were made since then.
Stainless Works is the best (excluding the ATS headers which I do not think can be bought anyway).
Stainless Works were designed to fit with Street and Performance mounts which mount the enige in the same location as most other except Hooker which moves the motor way back! Maybe Tyler can chime in on where his mounts sit compared to Street and Performance?
I have Stainless Works on the shelf. $840 delivered.

Not sure if it helps but Mike Kelcy posted some great comparison photos of some LSx mounts in here:

ok heres a idea...my car now has( or had, pulled it all last night) a sbc with the mcleod adapter and a muncie style bell which pushed the trans back a fair amount ....thinking if i used the hooker stuff i might get away without having to lengthen my driveshaft and cut a new hole in the floor...anyone car to comment ?? or anyone done this?? anydown side to the hooker stuff? seems engine furthest back car would hook & handle better....
i do like the stainless works stuff but it is a bit pricey but not out of the question....

I didn't like my Hooker plates. It sits the engine right on the freakin firewall. No room whatsoever in between. I ended up using CarShop 1" set back plates and Dynatech headers. It's a good mix for me and just enough room away from the firewall. Carshop has 2 plates so make sure to get the 1" setbacks.

just called dynatec headers, unfortunatly there headers were mocked up on a DSE hydro formed subframe not a oem one....so fitment is iffy....to bad nice price on them too!

Dynatech headers fit great. No banging or dimpling brand new headers :) Yes, I have power steering. My motor was out so I went ahead and put the driver side header in the bay and then everything else. Plenty of room. Although I'm running truck coils and my #5 and #7 spark plug wire isn't really long enough. The way the headers are made on that side I need some longer wires. Really happy with them.

what are you using for a oil pan? do you happen to have the part # for the motor mounts? because i do like the looks and price of the dynatech headers....

I'm using a C6 pan that's been modified. I don't have the plate # but just look up Carshop Inc.

I'm going to say, probably the S&P mounts. (Street and Performance)
BTW - thanks Frank. That's good info to know.

whatever you go with get the headers and mounts as a set. sell the ATS stuff and get a matched set.
that is why most people have fitment problems.

Good choice. It will be set back close but enough room to make you happy. Nice choice on the headers also. What intake are you going to run?

Anyone with the Dynatec headers have any pictures of how low the headers hang? It really looks like I'll either have to buy shorties or build my own if I want headers that don't hang 3" below the frame. :banghead:

They don't hang down that low. I'll try and take a pic soon enough.

Ridetech's 68 camaro (Velocity) is running the Dynatech headers. You can probably find some pictures there. They are 2" instead of 1-7/8" that is available to the public but they were built on the same jig. Velocity is running ATS adapter plates and a 670 box from DSE.
From all the LS headers I have seen they have the most clearance for the steering box since the number 6 (I think) tube runs over instead of down. At only $400 for the ceramic coated headers, gaskets, and your choice of 3" or 2-1/2" reducers I can't see how they can keep them in stock. I have their whole set up waiting to go on my 68 camaro. And yes, the price was recently reduced to $400 for the headers and reducers. They used to be ~$700.

Any progress on the motor install?
I am really interested to see how the headers and adapter plates work in a nova.

Supposed to receive a set of them this week direct from dynatech, won't be on the car for sometime tho. Hope they fit w/out issue w/ autokraft motor mounts/pan and mechanical clutch linkage. Was told they were designed to work w/ the motor in the stock location.
