At 4:02 am cst I was awoke by my closet doors shaking and the feel of the earth moving. I just happened to be awake in bed at the time thinking of stuff that wouldn't let me sleep, like a car that runs.

Anybody else feel it?

Couldn't tell....that stinkin wind is making everything rumble around my house right now....truck felt like it was sideways and needed a bunch of steering input to keep it straight while travelling to work this morning.

I was awake and felt it BIG TIME. I only live 5 miles from the epicenter of the quake. Heard a big boom, the house shook and I could hear the roof and walls making some creaking noises, then another boom, and then you could feel a low rumble for about 15 seconds. WTF! I live in northern Illinois. Didn't know I needed earthquake insurance. As far as I can tell evrything is O.K., just a few pictures fell over. Most imortantly, everything in the garage is fine.

I didn't feel it here in central illinois. We had a small one a year ago or more that felt crazy. We are actually close to a large fault line. I believe it is near St. Louis. In the 1800's there was a major earthquake here and they say it won't be long before another one hits.

Yep, the New Madrid fault line. It's is a couple hours south of St. Louis close to the Missouri bootheel. Produced one of the biggest earthquakes on record back in 1811. Hopefully it doesn't move for another 200 years or I might be screwed!

Earthquakes are like church on Sunday out here. No biggie. At least not anything under a 5.0.

The first jolt woke me up for the second one. I did check the garage before I left for work.

We call that a tickle here in California. Now, imagine a tumbler like that every few months or so. They dont even wake most southern cal guys up anymore.

Pictures fell over, we really do plan for the shakers here it would take at least a 5.0 to get the pictures over.

The last big jolt here caused a carburator fell off the shelf above my Monte......argggggg!

Now I can bust the chops of all the people who say they will never move here because the earthquakes (all the while putting up with twisters.....:enguard:)

I asked my wife if she was awake, and after a few smart-*ss comments, by me, I said we are not moving to California.

FYI the largest quake in North America (discounting Alaska's vulcanism) was an 8.1 in New Madrid, Missouri in 1811.

Was #2 San Fran?

#2 was also in Missouri a year later 1812. 8.0
#3 was Ft. Tejon, Ca in 1857. 7.9
#4 was SF 1906. 7.8

Missouri had a rough couple of years there in 1811/1812.

Alaska has by far had the worst of it in N. America over the last century or two.

LOL.....I can honestly say that I have only felt two since the 7.1 (or so) that we had here in the bay area in 89. I have been known to sleep through an earthquake or two...lol

............

I remember the 1964 temblor. I was living in Oregon at the time, and we felt it there. It also spawned a couple tidal waves
