Low pressure tire monitor

After almost wrecking a car at over 100, with low profile tires because a nail punctured a front tire. Id like to know if they go low on pressure.

I guess the counter to that would be Why wouldn't you want that on your car? There is really no down side to using a wireless TPMS that I can see. I actually have one for the OLC but couldn't use the sensors with the HREs. We're going to try to make them work with the new wheels.

I will get the info off the one I run on my slicks. It tells you the air presser as well as tire temp. A good tool at the track. Randy

It depends on the system. I've owned 3 cars that utilized it. 1 of 3 was overly sensitive and drove me out of my mind. I can definitley see the benefit of monitoring tire pressures on the race track. My C5 corvette had a decent setup that read it by 1 psi increments. My BMW's are either low tire or flat tire. Is that something you can work into the Racepack?

Thanks Pro. Im not real keen on the TPMS, but im running 35 series tires and would like at least aheads up if a tire is starting to go flat.

The cheapo aftermarket version I have reads in 1 psi increments and is self contained. Before I put those to work I'm going to talk to Racepak to see if they have done anything - my guess is no. To work with the IQ3 they would need use 4 sensors from a common hub (which is no big deal) but they would have to translate the data from the "OEM" packaging into CANBUS data format which is where I think it will fall apart. I wish it would work though.

I just put a set of Orange TPMS brand set of p409s on my 18x9 aftermarket wheels, I have had no problems. I decided on this brand when I went to SEMA and talked to the makers. The cheapest price I found was on AMAZON for $120 for a set of 4. Discount tire charged me $15 a tire for mounting and balance. The main reason I got them was because the valve stem is in the inside of the wheel and they are a b***h to get to and check the pressure.

I am running the Orange Electronics sensors in my slicks. They work well. Can I run multiple sensors in a few sets of wheels? For example 2nd set of slicks or street tires.
What would a 2nd set of sensors cost?

Randy, Orange came out with a new TPMS programmer unit recently. It allows you to program each sensor with a previous one's code. That might allow you to program as many sensors as you want to mimic eachother.

Another idea is to get a Bartec or any other TPMS reprogramming unit. Then each time you install a new set of wheels you just go through the typical OEM reset procedure. Those vary in price, usually between $100-300.

As for sensors, they vary in price depending on the part number required. Anywhere from $25 to $60 each, it seems.
