I want to put a 2-3 inch flare on the rear 1/4's of my '68 Charger. Is there anyone out there making some kind of steel universal flare that I may be able to use?

My other plan was to make 1 cut around the edge of the wheel well. Maybe use 1 inch tape to mark off the cut from the edge then push that out as far as I want to. I could then use poster board to use as a template then cut out the steel and weld it on bending it around as I go. I was thinking I could do either 2 big pieces, starting at the top of the wheel well and have 1 go forward and the other go backward. I could also make em in smaller, say 10 inch, sections. I just think that with 2 larger pieces, there would be less to smooth out for final shaping.

On another note, my front fenders are fiberglass. Is there a fiberglass piece I could use for the flare for em? If not I may end up making that piece myself too.

what is the reason you want to go that route? B-body have smooth body sides unlike Camaro or Firebird and flares just won't look right ,have you thought about gradually widening the quarters for smooth transition? I'm all for widebody look, but some cars just won't be able to pull it off without some extensive metal work, not just trim the wheelwell lip and weld a piece of metal

I agree whith what he said. I have a 68 and I don't know that they would lend themselves very well to flares.... but i think that if you cut them at the top of the fender, like where the fuel filler would be and widened them from up there and widened the inner fender well along with that it would pretty badass.

Like they mentioned... you could stretch the fenders for a cleaner look... I'll try to Sketch this up for you soon. It wouldn't take much to fit 335's all around.

I have seen some old pics of either a 'bird or a daytona charger that had flares and looked really nice. Looked like it was running nascar or something. Ill try to find the pic again...

The flares would be done in straight metal tho, no curves built in. I am going to replace the 1/4's on the car so i am going to try it with the junk ones on the car rite now and see how I like it

Found it http://www.musclecardrive.com/images/specs_pics/69_Charger_Daytona.jpg

I know that I am going to have to flare the front fiberglass fenders. I do like the looks of this car. I may build it a lot like this and get my rear axle a little bit more narrow to keep the rear tires in there. Id just have to alter the tubs to lower the car and let the tires move up and down as they please

That would be really cool if you could do that. Mine is getting 315's on all 4 corners. The rear can fit 325+ with the rite axle width or BS on the wheels. I have to cut up the wheel wells a little to let the 315s go where I want em to, but that is really not a problem

This is how a 315 sits under the fiberglass fender. The ones I will be using will stick out about another 1/2 inch or so

For all the trouble of creating steel quarter flares that would look good, it would probably be easier to just mini-tub the wells and put it all inside the existing body line.

Here is a quick sketch with arrows for where you would move the bodylines.

it would be a good bit of trouble to get it perfect... But it would look amazing! When I get a brake from school I'll do some more rendering type stuff. but I'm swamped with Homework and work right now.
