I have a general question about wheels that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer. A few years back, I bought a set of Chip Foose Nitrous II wheels (17x10" rear/5x5 bolt pattern - 17x8" front/4x4-3/4 bolt pattern) for my Karmann Ghia project. Unfortunately, when they arrived, they were mounted with my Sumitomo HTRZ II rubber (275ZR17 & 245ZR17, respectively), before I discovered the offset was wrong - so I'm stuck with them. OK, so I decided to make do and either build shorter control arms and have the halfshafts shorted, or leave all that alone and build new, wider steel flares to compensate; neither of which has occurred yet due to a number of reasons. But, in thinking over the alternatives (which leads me to my question), I'm wondering if someone out there makes a 17" wheel on the order of 12" wide with a 9-to-10" backspacing. This would enable me to stuff it all under the current flare design. I've been looking at the Corvette line of wheels that are 17x11 and 17x9, which look to have the amount of offset I believe might just work; however, I'm just not too enthused about the design. I haven't been able to get a response from Foose on the feasibility of obtaining a custom pair of Nitrous II wheels in this configuration, though. Oh, the reason behind wanting 12" wheels for the rear is to enable me to go to a wider tire, somewhere between 315 and 335. It's beginning to look like I'll just have to sell off the oddball set of Nitrous II's and HTRZ II's in order to get the fitment I'm looking for; these are new and have never been driven, too.:dunno:
