Interior will get sparco evo2+ seats, 4 point cage, crow harnesses. Guages will be upgraded to autometer when trans is put in. I'm trying to keep this car as basic as possible. If it can stay manual or mechanical I want it that way. Nothing fancy! Wheels are being built right now, 17" forgeline zx3r's

Dolf! It's awesome! Our cars are going to be clones from head to toe. Fixed back seats, check. 4 pt bars, very soon check. R888s, very soon check (they will be my reward if I can ever get good enough to outdrive the eagle f1GSD3's I have).

As for the frame connectors, I have a pair of bolt in ones I haven't installed yet. Not ready to go weld-in yet because I will probably remove my subframe a couple times eventually.

Where do you live? It would be awesome to be able to compare an identical car coilover vs non coilover to see what the differences are. I want that penske / chicane kit real bad now!

Subscribed, good luck!

Steven, good to see ya in here bro. I live on Merritt Is. Florida so i'm not sure if we will ever get to do a side by side comparo. I'll def be keeping you updated on the cars performance though. I'm trying to figure out which sparcos seats to get. I am 5'11'' 205, broad shoulders. I think I am in between the evo2+ and the evo 3's. Prob go 3's for more DD comfort. Can't wait to rip on her when I get home!!

My dad is 5'9" 195, 34 waist with a broad build, and he can fit into my Pro2000 seat snugly but without discomfort...I think it's about the same measurements as the Evo2. I called Sparco for their advice on seats and they were actually really helpful and patient...I think I talked to a guy named Warren IIRC, who knew his stuff. Evo 3 would probably be a safe bet....even if it's a smidge too wide, the lumbar pads will hold you in.

I don't know what passenger seat to get...not another Pro2000...I'll probably get a Evo2 so I don't hear so many complaints about being hard to get in/out of.

That looks really good.

What rotors are you using?

Stock C5 durastop rotors. Most of the serious track guys on corvetteforum say you go through rotors so fast that it's a waste to use expensive ones. Just rock some track pads and you're good to go. Once I get the car on the road course I have some ideas for brake cooling ducts.

You may want to double check that master cylinder. When i talked to tobin he recommended a 15/16-1" bore master with 8-9" dual boosters like the one detroit speed has. I don't know if the wilwood will work with the c5 brakes. I've been wrong before (i usually am lol) but the master is very important in the performance of the brake kit. Good luck, looks like a cool project.

Yes, Lee manufacturing box. -6 line from the pump to the box. -6 to and external Canton reservoir. -10 feed back to pump. If I start to experience over heating I will install a cooler.

Wow, nice build Dolf, and definitely the wheels I'm going with when the time comes, If it is not to late and you haven,t already done so, I would consider a Canton road racing oil pan and or an accusump system depending on how much roadracing you are going to do. Especially if you are running a high volume oil pump. I headed into the middle of turn 2 at Infineon at about 7300 RPM, sucked my pan dry, and through a rod bearing. I think If I had the Canton oil pan at that time this would not have happened.

Gitter Dun
03-25-2010, 10:30 AM
One more thing I forgot to mention, get a power steering pump that will stand up to the abuse of road racing, I am using a KRC aluminum unit with seperate reservoir, they are very light weight and so far in 8 years I have had it, no complaints. What about the engine oil cooler. I am using a Setrab unit and had it custom mounted behind the front grill, I also incorporated a MOCAL 180 degree oil thermostat so that the cooler will be bypassed under those temperatures, all oil running through 12 an steel braided lines. System One remote oil filter, mounted behind front grill also.

What P/N headers are these? Looks tight on the steering gearbox. Did they clear without having to modify? I am building the same car now. 68 all black, 383 with lots of DSE equipment. I live in Mooresville, NC (same as DSE) so it is too easy to go over there for the parts. Anyway, I like the build. Brian is doing great. I am close to needing headers now.

great project!

how much "road racing" are you looking to do with the car? How hard will you be pushing the car (or stopping it)? Do you have a curb weight for the car?

I race with SCCA in a C5Z06, and the factory brakes really aren't great. The C5 calipers spread after a few weekends, and the rotors go fast. Just something to think about :)

I will be doing a couple HPDE's when I can mostly at sebring. I will not be pushing the car 10/10th's! I am just getting the car to a starting point right now. Eventually when I get everything sorted out on the autocross course I will start road racing. At that time I will be adding front brake cooling ducts to help out. Prob use stock c5 rotors because they are going to go fast anyways and play with different pad combos.

This is easily one of my favorite projects on here. Love everything about this car, it's basically what I want to do to mine.

HOLY CRAP! Where do I start guys. This car is wayyy past where I thought we were going to be! I can't believe a 68 can handle like this does and we haven't even begun to push it. The engine sure liked the tune up and new ignition/ exhaust! Doesn't feel or sound like the same one. SERIOUS power... and we are not done yet. I have AFR elims on the shelf waiting. I haven't updated you guys because I literally can't get out of the car. I need Brian to install a laptop in her to keep my fellow pro-tourers up to date. BIG thanks to Brian and Anthony at Screamin Performance! I know you guys will be track side with me soon waiting for your turn to rip on her.

Very cool Dolf! I know the feeling. The car does handle unbelievably well. It will make a world of difference getting better seats in there too. You'll feel way more planted, giving your hands the ability to work the wheel rather than using your hands on the wheel to hold you in place. Kick the crap out of those Toyo's already!

What length/stroke coil-over did you use on the front and what length spring? I am building the same setup and am having difficulty working out the correct length

I don't know. I actually just wrote Tyler this week to find that out for myself but he said all of his notes have been given to Speedtech. I'd call them to find that out.

I did call Speedtech and was told to run a 5" stroke coil-over with 10" springs. Tyler just confirmed that with me as well as James of the OLC Camaro. My measurements and calculations are coming out to fit that particular coil-over, but Ridetech is telling me otherwise. I see where they are coming from, but the #'s and what others have done don't lie. I love Ridetech's products and customer service, so I am in no way trying to give any negativity about them. I just don't think they are hugely familiar with this particular setup.

Never tried Ridetech shocks but I have used Blsteins on all of my cars and all have been amazing. I am a Bilstein shock guy for life. Can't go wrong with a company that specializes in their product.

I've run Bilsteins on all my vehicles as well. They make an amazing shock, for sure. I would imagine that if I used Bilstein coil-overs I would be equally happy, but this time around I purchased the new Ridetechs. They spec'd me a shorter coil-over for the front, which I already bought, but they just won't fit this particular setup. I have not used them yet, so Ridetech is willing to swap them out, for me, to whatever size I actually need. They are truly one of the best companies I have ever dealt with.

You can purchase on here... http://screaminperformance.com/product.htm

I am also using his hood latch, kick panels, front carbon spoiler, and gauge mount. Highly recommend all of them!

Sat the 25th there is an autocross at Central Florida Racing Complex in Orlando. I will be there racing the car as well as Brian. Anyone else want to go and get some let us know. This is no ordinary autocross though, this called crooked drags. Line up like a drag race and race the opposing vehicle on mirrored autcross courses, first one back wins. Bad assery ensues!
