Hi, I'm new to this forum.I'm currently building a 1970 Buick GSX clone that I would like to figure out how to put a 6 speed trans in.

Hi, and welcome......

good news for you, this is not a hard swap. Mcleod has all the parts you need for the swap. thay got a modular bell housing for the BOP club. i got a Viper box in my T/A with a Traditional Pontiac engine, but i cant tell you if it tucks in your trans tunnel well cus i dont have an A-body..... but im sure it fits and you will get some good info from the guys in here...all a bunch of swell guys.

oh yeah before i forget.....PICS....always post PICS...lol

I'm putting a t56 behind a Pontiac 455. I basically found three bellhousing options.

You can get the one Weir Producs makes which is a cast aluminum piece that directly bolts an LS1 t56 to a BOP engine. Here is their website http://www.weirhotrodproducts.com/ (http://www.weirhotrodproducts.com/). I called them about it, I think the bellhousing was $600, but you need a hydraulic clutch setup. If you get the bellhousing with his hydraulic throwout bearing and crossmember it was around $1000.

You can use Mcleod's modular bellhousing and bolt an LS1 t56 to a BOP engine.

Or you can use any standard 4 speed bellhousing and use the Mcleod adapter http://www.streetperformance.com/part/mcleod-industries/bellhousing-adapter/1007268-8-207.html. That's what I'm using and Jeg's and Summit both sell them.
I decided that seemed best because the regular bellhousings and adapter together is only slightly more than the modular bellhousing. I can later use that bellhousing with a tko or 4 speed if I ever needed to, I can use a standard mechanical clutch setup rather than hydraulic. And an LS1 t56 with that adapter can be put behind any GM 4 speed bellhousing. I haven’t put it in my Firebird yet and from what I understand I’ll need an extended pilot bushing, which apparently no one makes. So I might have to have one made. I don't know what a Buick would need as far as a pilot bushing though.

Hope that helps.

just like what T_Raven said. you have all those optins but it depends what you want to do..if your looking at racing...i think the Mcleod if your best option due to the bell housing being SFI approved in case
something brakes off, it will contain it .

Are you talkin about the modular bellhousing because I thought it was NOT SFI approved. That's another reason I decided to use the adapter and I'll get a regular Mcleod bellhousing becuase they are SFI approved. But maybe I'm wrong about the Modular one.

Always glad to hear about other Buick GS projects. Didn't you also have Boattail Riv's?
