Hey guys,
Has anybody bolted a set of 97-99 Vette wheels (17x8.5 245/45 F, 18x9.5 275/40 R) onto an early 2nd gen?
If so, what size spacers did you use?
Pix?
I'm going to add 79 T/A brakes, how much wider is the track w/ disc brakes?
Thanks!
John

John, I've been planning on basically the same thing. I think you should give Vette Brakes a call. The can tell you what you really need, and they can sell it to you right away. Try sending Jeff Andre a PM. He's had Vette wheels on his car. I'm sorry I don't remember off the top of my head the sizes for the adapters though.... I think it's something like 2" front and 2.5" rear. Not positive though.

I had 89 Vette wheels (17x9.5) on all 4 corners. They fit fine in the rear, was going to widen them to 19x11 but went with 19x13 CCW's and a minitub. Anyway, I used 2" VB adapters at first, which were fantastic for the rear but put the front tire edge about 1/2" inside of the fender edge, forcing me to raise the car. I got a pair of 1.25" adapters for the front and was able to drop the front but the wheel was too close to the upper ball joint. Another reason I went with 19's, clearance of steering and suspension parts while allowing maximum backspace (7.2" on the front) allows me to keep the car very low.
I believe the 97-99 Vette wheels would easily fit my 71 Camaro with minimal stress, so for your Bird you just need to take your time placing them properly. I would get the rear adapters first, ensure that the tire fits the way you want it, then try them on the front too. The rear has more wiggle room, so to speak, so you will want to test-fit the fronts using the rear adapters to get the exact size adapter you need. If you determine that 1.25" adapters will work, I would sell you mine for half of the new cost. Good luck and post some pics when you can,

Thanks Jeff :icon996:
On your adaptors, did you have 12mm studs, 7/16" SAE, or 1/2" SAE?
I'm in contact w/ a guy who has some 2" and 1.75", but they don't have the stud size I was expecting.
