Okay-I have done several builds for a customer of mine and his latest "creation" is not one I can claim to have built as it is more starightline than a pro-touring car but omg-it is scary. It made me wonder how many of you guys have been in a stupid scary car that nearly makes you crap yourself? The car I had the joy of riding shotgun in what a 96 Mustang Cobra with an 80mm Precision turbo powered 4.6 with a TH400 and a Gear Vendors OD unit on it. Okay, to begin with, where it was built, there were two in-house dynos that could only handle the car up to around 850 HP before the tires would go up in smoke on the rollers so the owners HP target of 1000+ was never verified on paper but man, it has to be there. On the start, you CANNOT punch into this thing anywhere under 100 mph with it's DOT legal Mickey Thompson street slicks. Now, while I would not advise anybody to do this, we took the car out on the freeway to open it up early in the morning with little to no traffic just to see how it would do...well, we had the car in 4th gear @ 95 mph, pulled it into 3rd and smashed the throttle to the floor-the car literally felt like it was on ice-it tried to kick out a bit from the rear, both tires went up in smoke, it hit the rev limiter several times before somewhat smoothing out and as we hit 150 mph, the car was pulling so freakin hard that the car was weaving a bit side to side so we got out of it. The car felt more like it was floating that anything else but at a breakneck speed. It was super un-nerving because while the car has a full cage, the suspension, brakes and rear-end (scary!) is all stock. 3.23 gears out back with a pretty low 3200-3400 RPM converter but the boost above 7000 RPM is just stupid crazy! We'll be taking it to the track this year to get some 1/4 times but this car is about as ridiculous as a car as I have ever been in. Who else has a crazy speed story?

I was lucky enough to drive a blown Z06 that had over 800 RWHP and that car was like driving on ice! But all kinds of fun! Burnouts and getting sideways on command at just about any speed. Practical? nope. Fun? Oh hell yes!!!

Not close to what you are explaining. But I bought a 87 Grand National and when I went one a test drive with the owner it scared the hell out of me. When the tires broke loose on every gear change and the back end pulled to the side I was white knuckled the whole time. It was running 24lbs of boost and he ran a best of 11.2 on street tires spinning a lot down the track. When I bought the car I turned the boost down to 13lbs and it was still scary fast for me. Why did I ever sell that car?

I had pleasure of taking infamous Joe's Ford GT Twin Turbo for a ride:),let me just say, if you haven't experienced driving a 1500hp car,you haven't driven anything yet.
this car is simply put, SCARY!
BTW,I daily drive 600hp APU Supra and it's nothing compared to that monster

I have a C5 Corvette with a 404ci LQ4 and an F1R Procharger. It makes around 700rwhp and will spin the drag radials in 4th gear at 100mph. It's plenty for me. Anyone who goes for a ride just starts to giggle uncontrollably until I let off the throttle.

The most insane car I've been in was maybe the car that Pete and his crew at Comp-Spec did at their shop for a customer, Steve, whom we all know. A 2005 Ford Mustang, custom paint/body mods and motor/trans upgrades and with a turbo @ 12psi, I think, 12 psi?!?!
Man, this car was bad. Sideways all the time, tires screeching and the car kept surging forward.:)

My most insane street car drive was when my neighbor let me drive his Factory 5 cobra with 550+ hp. He uses it for runs to Home Depot and track days.... Watch for a Lambo Orange Cobra at those Cali tracks and Pahrump........
I know it pales in comparison to others but it was insane for me.....
Now to find a way to get a ride in a certain Bug being built in Louisiana....

Payton King's "Deadcat" is the fastest car I have ever driven. To have that much power at the rear wheels was like driving on ice. Just put the pedal down a little and away they spin. Being able to put it down on an autocross was even more fun because No TICKETS and an audience.
Pro- touring cars with that much power do sooo much more for me than any of the 12 second street cars out there.
Riding in Jeff Schwartz Ultima was the fastest car I have had a ride in and it is even faster now than when I went for a ride. Jeff can really drive too which made all the more fun.

My friends 27 T-bucket. It has a blown BBC that makes 850hp and weighs 2200 lbs. At the drag strip he was told not to go into the 12's. He ran 13.01@133 mph. It has a 4 speed and will pull the front wheels 2 feet when shifting from first to second on the street.

Here is my buddy's car, 1200hp twin turbo Viper that goes 200mph.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItEmeSGNJBM
If you were at RTTH5, he had the twin turbo Z06 that led.
He gave me a ride in his pro-charger Viper(yes, another one) and went to 150mph in no time. That's fast enough for me on the road.

I did not drive and I am glad I didn't. I was able to experience Jake's superb driving skill. It wasen't so much the acceleration (it was insane) but the handling and the brakes. I was all confused and shaky afterwards....

my buddies twin turbo BMW. He was drunk and asked me to drive. Told me not to waste my time with first gear. I thought he was going to have to clean the seats.
I built a Dodge Stealth R/T for a customer in new york, it was a twin turbo, v6 all wheel drive car to start with and zero to 60 mph taking just over 5 seconds in stock form, we installed larger turbos bigger blow of valves, bored the cylinders .20 over bigger intercooler that was cryogenics cooled, an a small shop in the OC flashed the computer to get rid of rev limits... the first test run after the build scared the crap outta me I merged on to the freeway in second gear at 85 and climbing, all 4 wheels just grabing tread fulls of asphalt as it accelerated, I shut it down and later that week we ran the car on a drag shake down on the flight line at March Air Force Base, it was damn scary

I'm happy to say my JT trim 404 C6. Its owned by a guy in New York right now who has called me to ask a few build questions. I asked him if he's got into it yet. He said no, bad weather. I said be very careful :) The car will blow the tires loose at almost any speed when it builds boost. To find yourself sideways at over 100mph is an almost religious experience.

never driven anything like you guys are describing, but I DID drive something recently that I THOUGHT would scare me: a friend's BMW M6. V10 505hp IIRC. TOO controlled, too refined. I really thought something w/ 505hp would be more fun to drive. I was bored, to be honest.
my brother used to have a sand rail buggy w/ a real low 1st gear; launching in that you felt it in your stomach like it was a roller coaster. no top end.

The quickest road car I was in belonged a buddy Chris in Oakville,,, he had at the time a TT Viper that was incredibly quick and felt raw in it's power.... He has since moved on to a Ford GT(40) and it is suposed to be a weapon also....
The problem with these cars is they are so refined..... you lose some of that raw edge. Chris did a twin super charged Lamdo for my cousin and I drove that car too,,,, it was crazy fast but very controlled (if you can say that in the same sentence with +1,000hp).... I liked his Viper cause it felt raw like the older cars do...
Personally my quickest car was only around 750hp on pump gas and will come out this year around 800hp with the new motor....

sadly the most extreme car I have driven was my brothers Z06. Awesome car and it was my reasoning for going with my LS1/ T56 in my 68. A stock Z06 is fast enough for me!! lol:6gears:

Funny, but I'd classify "insane" by how scary a particular car felt to drive. Sometimes very well built cars are ultra-fast, but do not feel scary to drive. They steer straight at high speeds, keep the tires planted well, have good brakes and handling. You can feel somewhat safe in a car like that, hence the less "insane" it seems.
For example, my supercharged Viper is easily the fastest car I've owned, around 700 rwhp. But, the car is dead solid at speeds, has awesome brakes, no drama. It isn't scary to me. But, I've had several 550-600 rwhp cars that scared the crap out of me (and passengers) due to how rowdy they drove, how hard they cammed, how poor the brakes and handling were.
I'd say my slightly lower powered, more scary cars, were the more insane ones.

Some of you may remember Monty Berney's 55 chevy "Bertha 1" from the "Fastest Street Car in America" Hot Rod magazine had in the 90's. I believe this truly was the fastest street car in america at the time. I had the pleasure of working for Monty at the time and was very involved with the construction and maintenance of the car. It was all steel, roll up windows, stock front suspension and weighed 3500 lbs. We eventually ran a 7.75 at 180 in this car. I never took it down the track but did drive it on the streets of Livermore Ca. once. To this day, thats still one of the most impressive cars I've ever driven.

I would have to say my friends turbo 89 bmw 325 it was a budget build and he took a turbo out of a diesel truck and made his own intake, header and downpipe. The thing made 30lbs of boost and only weighed about 2500lbs...to bad it blew up. Other than that my yamaha R1 I know its not a car but anything that has 150hp and only weighs 380 lbs is fast as hell. Not to mention it will wheelie at 100mph with no clutch

Didn't drive it, but I definitely remember my scariest ride-a-long...
Fiberglass 32 Ford roadster built for Red Stauffer (owns a sprint car team). He dropped a fully built Sprint car motor with a Super T-10 4 spd and a Halibrand quick change rear in it. The only departure from Sprint motor trim were three deuces sitting on top instead of a 4 barrel. Running on race gas... The whole nine...
Might as well have been a go cart with that motor strapped on to it.
Was a bit scary. I was 16 and wasn't brave enough to ask to drive it.
