Has anyone ever done a PT style 70's Opel GT? Since its snowing here in Oklahoma some strange things have been popping into my head. I think it would be kinda cool!

I'm a huge Opel fan. I actually like the Manta body style.

Those mantas aren't too bad! Truthfully I've never seen one! Kinda cool.

They would make a cool PT car.
I have been wanting one for a couple of years. Of course I have no money so I couldn't do anything with it if I had one. I was thinking boosted ecotec , 6 speed, and 17's all around

I've wanted one too. There's a blue one in my town that's been sticking half way out of a garage for at least 13 years now. I've never bothered ask if they want to sell it because I've always had so many other things going, but it would be awesome to build one.

alot of drag racers use that body. very light. It would be a great project.

I saw one at a swap meet 2 years ago with a Buick GN motor in it and it fit perfect. Owner said it was wicked fast and handled fairly well but was more of a drag car.

A friends brother had one w/custom plates "BABYVET".
Very appropriate, IMO.

I've read that they handle pretty well but are underpowered. Nothing the people here couldn't fix. But I have never seen a PT one... I'd like to do one but two projects (hopefully three soon) is enough for me!

Putting one together in the shop right now for my son, he is 16 & wanted something different. The GT fits that bill. We bought 2 GT's a few months ago, one for extra parts. We are installing flares and spoiler right now. Finding wheel / tire combo with a deep dish 4x100 pattern is not fun. We are using adapters for a more common pattern. You must use a tire with a max 24' OD even with alot of cutting and sheet metal work. We might go with an ecotec later, but are using the 1.9 for now, one of the motors had 165 -168 psi in all cylinders runs strong with a new weber. I've researched the 4spd trans. will not live with the ecotec don't know about the diff. Fun cheap project. btw we went with 255/35/16

There's a guy (don'y know his name) that runs an Opel GT at Bonneville. Thing has a 396 Big Block Chevy with 6-71 blower!
I'll bet that's a fun ride!
I always liked the mini-vette looks, though they are very small.
And the Opel Manta is pretty good looking as well IMO.

35873Well I hope this works. Fitting the body kit. I don't think this is Pro Touring, maybe retro-tuner?

35875 After locating the fender flare we marked the opening on the sheet metal. I used a plasma cutter to enlarge the opening's. Then I welded the fender back to the inner fenderwells and headlight tub, shaping filler strips to fill the gaps. I'll get some better pics tomorrow night of the sheet metal work. I'm not crazy about the flares (sons idea) but they let us use a better tire and there was some damage around the original wheel openings anyway.

35876 test fitting new ebay seats, tight but they will work. The GT has a large interior for its size. I fit pretty well at 6'3" & 240, once I crawl in. btw very clean GT clasiccardude69

Unfortunately, I don't have one but I really wish I did. :crying:
Thats just a picture I posted for some of the kids on the site who wouldn't know what an opel gt looks like (I'm 18). Most kids these days wouldnt know. Hell most of my friends think my firebird is a camaro or they ask if I'm gonna put a bird on the hood. Go figure :hmm:

Does anyone have a video of the headlight buckets turning over?
That is the coolest things about these cars.

most of the vintage opel body styles I think make pretty cool pro-touring candidates. i personally am more of a Manta and kadett guy. i have a 69 kadett rallye sitting in the garage as a future project. it has a 200 hp 2.0L with twin 2-bbl webers and it's lowered 3 inches, widened wheels, etc. was somebody's street/SCCA car from back in the mid 90s. the engine pulls hard all the way to 8000 rpm.

I feel like it needs a big neon sign in the grille that lights up and says "OH HARRO DERE!" whenever you flip the headlights over.
