So, what are your other hobbies aside of Pro-Touring?

Since I don't have my car anywhere near done, I thought I'd share these instead LOL. My winter hobby is with snowmobiling. Kinda gave up trail riding to do ice drag racing. Here's 3 pics of my Pro Stock 1000 that I just sold a month ago to put $$ into the PT car (68 Camaro). The other 2 pics are of my trail sled that will become a 970cc twin and will probably race it in IMP 1000 classes. I built both of these from ground up, powder coated the chassis and went from there.

I ride motorcles and mountainbikes but my most embarrasing hobby is building car models.Here's a picture of a protouring 69 camaro model, about 11 inches long. The lights work but they're off in the photo.The wheels are from an rc car.It took a ridiculous amount of time and after nearly finishing it I went out and got the real car!

I recently joined D.O.M.S. At age 37, I can only achieve the ranking of Domit--which stands for Dirty Old Man In Training. It's not until I reach the age of 50 that I can be officially ranked as a dirty old man. And that's assuming that I pass my training which includes the following courses:

-Leering
-Winking (It's an artform, you know)
-Lude and Lascivious Remarks
-Flashing
-Streaking
-Spitting
-and Snickering

(Don't bother looking any of this up because I just invented it in my strange little brain)

Until then I will pass my time by riding my Harley V-Rod and playing poker.

I play a lot of video games. Used to be PC (Unreal Championship, etc...) now it is XBox (Halo2). I also play sports (softball, soccer and bowling-if you call that a sport).

I like to hang out at the local Taco Bell and start fights with all the high schoolers.

When I'm not doing that I am usually out on Lake St. Clair in the Summer in my 20' Trophy chasing the Walleye and the Musky or I'm off the tip of Port Austin on Huron lookin for Chinook and Lakers.

I'm also an avid Poker player. We have about 5 tournaments a year. No limit $100 buy in. I usually lose my ass, but it's fun.

I also collect Punk Rock memorabilia and music from the late 70's and early 80's. I am infatuated with an era that I was just too young to be a part of before it was over.

Oh yeah...and my kids are my other hobby as well.

Sweet. I didn't realize there would be a couple model guys fessing up already. My main hobby (the cheapest.....relatively) is collecting 1/18th scale diecast cars. I like working out, Xbox/PS2, and tuning my big cars too.

vanzuuk1- You say the car is 11" long. Is it diecast? I'm looking to customize some of mine also. That thing is gorgeous whatever scale, whatever type material.

astroracer- It's a small world. I emailed you a long while ago about maybe producing 1/18th scale parts. Are you rethinking yet? If not, look at what you could do with a GMP Street Fighter. Mmmm.

Let's see, boating, motorcycle riding and events such as bike week- Daytona and Sturgis, NASCAR at Bristol twice a year.
I do most of the car events in the area and Daytona Turkey Run.
I am not sure if this is a hobby but I am a mason, and enjoy visiting different lodges. Just curious, any other masons here?

Well I am a Lieutenant in our city Volunteer Fire Dept. We have approximately 28,000 people, with one paid chief, and two paid capts, that work Monday - Friday. The Volunteers, we have about 25, take care of the nights, weekends and holidays. I am there about 2-3 nights a week. I have a very understanding wife. The station is staffed 24/7 365 days of the year. We run about 1600 calls a year.

My other major hobbies are video games and movies. PS2, X-box, PC
I play a lot of games online.
130+ DVD movies (all burnt)
120+ PS2 games (all burnt)
10+ X-box games (actually bought these)
I used to take my 4x4 truck out almost every weekend to the dunes or trail riding but gas prices have forced me to get a quad and I have been enjoying that almost every weekend since I bought it. A lot cheaper than a truck and a lot easier on gas. And in a lot of ways it is a lot more fun. :D
I also do all these hobbies with my girlfriend. We play x-box together online all the time. And on the weekends ride the quad.

Aside from the cars... Photography is my main hobby, but I have a collection of antiquarian books too. Other than that lots of skirt chasing and boozin. I'm simple.

Like some of you I also build model cars.I also collect Hotwheels and just about every other die-cast car made. My job is also my hobby I build custom homes on the Northshore of IL. and some vacation cottages on Lake Carroll. When I'm not doing that I'm in the garage working on the Mopars or building kid's furiture ( Toyboxes,dressers and shelveing). My 19 month old daughter also takes alot of my time. She and I like to watch NASCAR on Sunday and she like's carshow night on Friday's in the summer. Her 2nd word was (cool car) no lie. I too like Bill Howell am a NASCAR fan.I've never been too Bristol but plan on beeing there next spring. (J Gordon fan here Bill) .

I know that my Grandfather was a 33rd and my dad is a 32nd. I am SURE I will mess this up, but my grandfather got some big honor with the Scottish Rite about 10 or so years ago where a class (I think) was named after him in Cleveland. His name was Robert Stratton. I think that is what happened. I guess I should have known more about it. I will ask my dad to verify that.

Ummm.... My car isn't done, I'm broke, and I lost count of how many girls recognize me when I walk in and sit and talk to me. Self control is non existant. And yes, I probably could have a car that's running by now, but boobies rule!!!!

for those who asked ,the model in the photo is a 1/12 scale plastic kit from a few years back. the wheels are from an rc car and the rotors and calipers are from a dubs diecast. I 'll take a photo with the lights on. ASTRORACER i need 1/12 scale aluminum rims, help! STREETFYTR , park the pocher kit in freeport on sunrise highway, someone will "open" it for you! Hmmm... hobbies... I remember those... Actually, many of you have seen the photochops I've been doing lately.

But I'm actually pretty damn lucky... my primary hobby is also how I spend most of my time: composing music. I'm currently pursuing a doctoral degree in acoustic and computer music composition, which means I spend a lot of working on synthesis and DSP algorithms with software languages like Csound, SuperCollider, CLM, etc., as well as learning other useful languages (like LISP) and other relevant applications (like harddisk editors and various analysis/transformation apps). I also spend way too much of my time teaching music theory and ear training to university undergrads.

Other than that, I've got a couple other small projects I've been working on, including a multimedia version of a graphic novel, an interactive lighting installation, and a realtime controller for realtime audio DSP. Any time I have left is spent with my 8 month old son and my ever-so-supportive-and-amazingly-tollerant wife.

Nah, my hobbies are really playing video games when I'm feeling like it, and just loafing around. I love sports too. Oh, and I was into car modeling a long time ago, but I got too busy finding parts from other models to make new ones. Some day I'll finish that 454SS sport truck I was building, and some day I'll finish that Chevelle SS I was modifying too. Sniffing glue is fun too.....

My main hobbies right now are biking(trying to burn off my belly) mostly urban riding, skateparks, downtown riding, etc. The car of course and now I am building a one off radio control truck. I used to race and quit that a year or so back. Was waaaay too much money.

I also build scale auto replicas and have actually had a couple cars pictured int he Scale Auto Contest Annuals.

My next scale project is a 65 Chevelle, Pro-Touring of course.

Astroracer - I love your stuff....I was just putting together my needs list for the Chevelle and a good number of your products will be featured.(sigh)...You plastic model guys get all the good products. Modifying a diecast means using another one for parts or DUBS wheels on ebay. :banghead:

It's not as hard as I thought it would be to keep it alive. Daily I add calcium and once a week I swap out 2 of 12 gallons of water and dose about 10 chemicals. I didn't even want to do it but my Fiancé put together a fresh water nano cube and bought me an empty tank and helped get the ball rolling. She learned and thought me a lot about it. I must admit it's not that hard. The tank is the cheap part. It's been up for about a year and I've spent about $1,400 since July last year. It's not the cheapest hobby but it can be done for less. The $1,400 includes the tank, pumps that went belly up, an added pump, chemicals, supplies, fish, all corals and everything you see in the tank plus food since and oh, the oak stand.

Let me know if you want to start one and I'll help point you to some cool web sites and what ever else I can help with. It does wonders for the blood pressure.

One thing to keep in mind. If you can keep a small tank like this alive it's easier to keep a large one going. I hope to step up to a 80 gallon some day.

I play computer games - just not first-person shooters. Mostly RPGs and strategy. Not online.

I read a lot of sci-fi and a lot of technical manuals. I've decided to try and get my degree before Alzheimer's kicks in so I'm taking a class on Databases at the community college.

I bring work home and seem to spend most of my free time doing that - since it's a lot more relaxing to do it at home when folks aren't able to call/email me, it's almost like a hobby (plus I get overtime for it).

One of these days I need to finish the models I've started - they're not cars though, they're 1/35th scale military.

I also see a thread for car model photos in the future. I guess we all never grew out of it. A real estate agent was showing my old apartment and she looked at all my stuff and asked how many kids I had. Uh.. none. She looked at me like I was a little slow!

I've been in this hobby for over 20 years,things have changed over the years..products are better..but boy do they cost! I also like to do electrical work,right now finishing up some new lights in the new garage.

Finally i can have my tools and "projects" a few feet from each other.Now if i had the money to finish the projects..:candle:

Other hobbies??

While I am waiting for car parts to show up I work on house projects or kill things on the computer (HL2, Counterstrike, etc).. Some times I go target shooting.. did I mention I like cars?
I also have Half Life 2 and counterstrike. Mabey we will have to meet some time. I am terrible online at HL2 though. I get owned bad!!! If I do play Half Life 2, I just play the single player. I still have to try out Counter Strike.

recently my hoby has been moving and setting up new shop. bodybuilding, just kind of maintaining right now though. lots of remodeling/house projects, ill be doing a deck and finishing out 1000 sq ft basement @ this new house with a bar and pool table. i work most weekends against my will so it cuts into alot of other activities. up until about 2 years ago clubbing and an endless stream of very beautiful and very stupid girls was a main priority. i seem to have found a beautiful one that isnt a dumbass so theres not a lot of reason to hit the bars anymore. im starting a master degree this fall so i need to hurry up and get the car gutted and stripped, i figure the masters will take a year and half, that should just about work out with a typical painters schedule for actually getting the shiny stuff shot on the car for me.

I'm with Mike. My main hobby is volunteering as a Firefighter. I've done it for 18 years now and it is adictive. You can get some interesting experience with technical areas if you are will in to put in the time. Currently I am a Resuce Captain in charge of Technical Resuce, I do High Angle rope rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Swift Water Rescue and anything else that comes up. It can be very exciting and good for an adrenaline junkie. Nothing like crawling down a dark hallway with visibility down to a foot above the floor and a few hunderd degrees of heat on your back.

My other main hobby is backpacking. My wife and I go for at least a week in the woods each year. Our goal is to hike the John Muir trail in the High Sierra's next year. It is a 211 mile trail and it will take about 3 weeks to complete. We usually backpack in the Adiarondaks in upstate NY.

:rotfl: Oops. Yeah, forgot about the world of 1/12 scale. They have nice, but few diecast in 1/12 and even fewer plastic...that I know of. Kind of an expensive scale too.

Remember Dan Severn? I trained with him for about 3 years straight and right now have just been on and off (I pop in once every few months... I need to get back into it again more). We're in the same town, Coldwater, MI.

Yah I remember Severn one of the old skool guys...I think he was here in Colusa,CA for a fight recently...I went and trained with this local guys here Dave Velasquez (used to train with Frank Shamrock) man the cardio is INTENSE to say the least ...I'm a fairly big guy @ 6'3 245lbs. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week and do an hour of cardio and also do weights and the workout he had me doin made me wanna puke! when I can get my schedule in order I plan on training with them 2-3 times a week along with my regular gym. Did you ever get in the cage in a real fight or just training?(not that training isnt real) :box2:

i used to drag race until my dad sold the trailer to tow the car with, which as most of you know is now up for sale as well. i have one of those overpriced gas powered r/c monster trucks too. sometimes i think i spend more money on that than the real thing. keeping the sofa cushions warm at night is fun too.

My schedule has drastically changed since our first child was born two weeks ago. I don't think I'll have time for any of my hobbies for a while, but I do have several besides cars that I enjoy. I ride/race my motorcycle, a moderately modded '99 Suzuki Bandit 1200 that should run the quarter in the 10.90's/mid 130's this year. I also build/fly radio controlled aircraft, although I haven't had time to fly in the last few years. I also lift weights four days a week. I hope to add road racing to the list once I finish my Camaro.
