We started this project years ago for a customer who wanted to build an Eleanor from a very rusted out Mustang. We worked on it on and off and than the customer lost interest and I bought it back.

We had to replace the right frame rail and decided to go to a Rod & Custom front end

Epoxy primed the skeleton and took it to a car show.

It was our yearly Mustang Club of Tampa's show and I figured no one had ever seen a Mustang without sheet metal. I had the Eleanor hood on it.

Nice work on the clean up!
Are you going to go ahead with the Eleanor style?

We did away with the drip rails and welded a patch at the body seam area where the factory had lead.

I hope the interior fits over that. Good looking restoration. I was reading a thread the other day. Watch out though, you have a lot of Eleanor haters on here. I personally like the look of them. :twothumbs

Wow, hell of a difference. You pretty much rebuilt the car from new panels.

Good lookin sheet work my friend!! But I have a question. Won't that scoop just effectively cool your tires? Your mini tub job alludes to big meats, which means that that hose would have to go into the inside surface of the tub to get any air to the brakes at all. Just looking and thinking. I'm lovin this and your 68 coupe!

That metal work on the drip rail makes me want to get in the garage right now. I've read some, who shave those off, would reinforce that drip rail area w/a thicker metal strip running along the drip rail. Did you think about this?

No I did not and don't see where you would need to after it is welded solid.

That is a great idea cutting out the lead seam.
I'd like to do the same on my 67.
Also need to cut off the drip rails, they're pretty rusted.

Great job!! Did you actually remove the flanges from the lead seam or just weld the filler over them??

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean by flanges

The original edge of the quarter and roof are flanged where they meet. IE they have a drop-down so they can be filled with lead .

rusty428cj

All the original metal was left on the new quarter panels and roof panel. Brian made a patch that he welded flush so we used very little bondo after he ground the welds.

how are you adjusting the chrome on the inside of the window after cutting the drip rails or are you completely doing away with the chrome?

This project has been put on hold for awhile and I'm not sure yet what we will be doing. There was so much rust in the drip rails that we had to cut them off and I like the smooth look.

Rusty and is son Brian do exellent work. I have seen some of the others cars he has done on a other web site. They take cars that most people would send to the crusher and bring them back to life. Pure works of art.

I need to get a narrowed rear first than figure out the wheel and tire size.

I have been working on my 67 Fairlane getting the body ready for paint than I will start working on the 68 Coupe or Fastback. I have to many projects and not enough time or money. I want the coupe to be my daily driver. I have a 4.6 SOHC and aod from a 1995 T-bird that at this time I plan on using in the Coupe.

The plan for this car is I want to sell it to someone but finish the project for them. At this time any engine will fit with the Rod & Custom front suspension and we can install any rear suspension and interior.
