Has anyone seen Ford's all new 5.0 motor that is debuting in the 2011 Mustang GT? All aluminum DOHC 5.0 that produces 412 HP and 406 ft./lb. of torque. Great multi page article on it in the new 5.0 Mustangs that tells about how it came to be. Looks to be a great engine for older Stangs now.

I read it makes peak power at 6500 and redline is 7000. That motor in the lighter mustang is going to spank the camaro and challenger and be cheaper also.

Actually I believe the base price of the 2011 GT is more than a base SS.

Mustang already has a 500+ lb weight advantage over the Camaro, new lighter, more powerful 5.0L can only help the cause...:enguard:

ford released the prices and they didn't increase much over the 2010's. Plus they have a long list of options available. Still gonna be cheaper than a camaro and now maybe a little more competitive from the stoplights.

I have always been a Ford guy until I reached my forties, it must be some kind of mid life crisis that I am now going through because I now have all camaros (well one 69 mach1 that I have had since I was 16) when it use to be mustangs. I dig the new 5.0 and I really like the new mustang looks I just don't like how i fit in the car and how it feels. But rock on 5.0 lite fans !

You have got the Mustang really light or the Camaro really heavy, the weight difference is 250 to 300 lbs. With the 2011 Mustang at right around 3600 lbs equiped with the new 5.0 will make for a great race between the Camaro SS and the GT. The base model GT has a price adavantage (I hope Ford doesn't jack the price on the 2011 models) over the 1SS Camaro but the Camaro has more content than a base Mustang GT. Straight line the GT will have a slight advantage over the SS, but throw really world rough road courses the advantage goes to the Camaro. What a great time we live in with some of these hardware going into the lastest pony cars.

BTW this is a lot better looking engine than the old Mod engine, would look great in a early chassis.

Even though I own a 1st gen Camaro, I am secretly still rooting for the 2011 Mustang to demolish the new Camaros in every facet. Why? Because the Mustang has a solid axle (just like most of our cars), and I love that Ford is proving that a solid axle setup can hang with the best of em (purportedly the E92 M3 around a track).

I continue to live vicariously through other cars until mine becomes unbroken.

I wonder how hard it would be to transplant that into my '03 GT?

I read my buddies magazine article on that engine.

4 valves per cylinder, that's good stuff right there! Great engine, can't wait to see some Mustang/Camaro races and hop-ups.

Notwithstanding the engineering requirements behind it, the oil filter is oh so subtle and eloquently placed.

Anyone seen a dyno sheet on the new 5.0? I would like to see how much area is under the torque curve.

They are using that in the new Shelby GT-350 coming out. Cool looking retro mustang.

With a guesstimated range of 515-556 horses, the Shelby GT350 is going to be one Awesome car! I really like the new look of the GT350 except for the running light being to close together on the front lower fascia.

haha! Come on, you know I have a point. Granted, I wouldn't be caught dead with a mustang parked next to my camaro....but I always root for the underdog.
