The 1965 Chevelle 2-Door Wagon built by Dennis Smith sold at Russo and Steele this afternoon for $33k. This car was featured on the cover of Hot Rod in June 2001. Dennis built the car to drive and did exactely that in two of the very first Power Tours. Rumor has it over $100k was invested in the build with great attention to driveability, comfort and performance. It was a pro touring car before "pro touring" became popular. The car sold for $56k at Barrett in 2002. To my knowledge that was the record high for these cars. I'm still kicking myself for not flying down for the auction. It's hard for me to imagine the car selling at this price.
You can read more about the car and see video of the auction tomorrow on NewRarewagon (http://newrarewagon.com/blog).

Good thing you didn't. Russo and Steele was shut down from severe weather. 2 tents collapsed and one ended up on the near by 101 freeway. Many cars were damaged or destroyed. Roadster Shop told me that one car next to one of there's was crushed by a pole.
