i started searching for a wheel/tire package back in september 2008. Richard (gearheads78). Richard really was super helpful and kept me on track. Jon at DriverzInc.com had some great advice as well ~ thanks Jon. in the end, i finally settled on a set of Budnik Billet Muroc wheels.

the real difficult task for me was finding the right tire size for the wheels. it's really crazy when you get down to overall diameter (tire height), section width, recommended rim width, etc. ... it was nuts. i know that many of you have been there - done that.

here's what i (we) came up with:

Budnik Billet Muroc wheels ~

18 X 8 with 4.50 backspace
18 X 9.5 with 5.50 backspace

BF Goodrich g-Force Sport tires ~

245/40ZR18 front
275/40ZR18 rear

for those curious on the Budnik build and delivery time - i ordered the wheels on 10.23.09 and they arrived today ~ 1.19.10. i ordered them from Paradise Road Rod & Custom. a good friend with a pro-touring mustang recommended PRRC for Budnik wheels. Jim was fantastic and i believe PRRC prices on Budnik wheels are excellent (http://www.paradise-road.com/).

when the roads clear up, i'll have them mounted and take some more photos...

i think the Budnik Murocs compliment the muscle car look with a slighlty modern twist.

i'll be adding a Lee 670 steering box in the spring and then i should be all good.

I'm excited to see these on the 442. Once my GTO is done, I'll be looking for a Cutlas S (heck, I'm always looking for one!)

Greg, glad we could help. Wheels will look great when you get them mounted. And according to Jay at Budnik, they have now cut their build time to six weeks.

Jon at Driverz is a great guy who knows his stuff. Even though we are "competitors", we have become good friends over the last few years. And since we got this one Jon, the first "fishbowl" in Columbus is on me!

Thanks again Greg,
Jim

Thanks Jim. I ordered them understanding the wait... which was fine with me as the roads here are horrible! I'll be sure to post photos when I get them mounted. They really look great!

Regards.

Thanks for the nod Jim, and Greg. We give out a lot of advice to the good members here, and we're happy to help.

Jim, I'm definitely taking you up on that fishbowl!

the tires are mounted and wheels are on the Olds. we got the offset and all sizing perfect in my opinion... no issues at all. the springs are OEM (and new) ~ the ride height is just right. these photos were taken minutes after it came off the lift... i think it will settle a bit more. the lighting sucked ~ i'll post more photos later. [jay - i'll try to take some great spring pics for your 'Cool Ride of the Month'!]

what do you think? (no worries purists > i'm keeping the stockers!)

Just curious...You stated that the rears were 9.5" wide, but in the pic with the tape it shows 10.5"? Am I missing something here? I too got a good quote from PRRC for a set of Budniks, and want to make sure I get my measurements right before I end up with a costly mistake?

The Fat lip wheels, actually measure about 1" wider than advertised.
It's just a design characteristic of a fat lip wheel.

Its really not just fat lips. Its all wheels are wider than advertised. If you look again his are step lips.

Wheels are measured from tire bead to tire bead but your real measurement is the outside edge to outside edge.

To add to the confusion when you figure backspace you do include the lip to the outside. For instance a 0 offset 10" wheel will have 5.5" of backspace.

I like the alot but I think they need a accent color to break up the chrome center. IMHO

i was thinking the same thing... the Budnik website shows the Muroc wheels with black lugs. i may consider the black lugs...

thanks!
