So my friend has a 328i he thinks he will beat me in a drag
mind you he is stock and i am well... modified
stock for stock he would be me of course.
but i cant convince him that it wont touch me in a strait line

oh and strait line
he makes 230 horse and i make 400-420(some where in there)

any thoughts?

Ya, deja vu. Haven't you posted this before? Take them to your local autocross or road course and settle it.......

i already did a strait line well with my chevy truck(with a 5.3 and 6000 lbs) he barely pulled on me by like 2.5 cars at that

i finally drove it and well, it gave me a whole new light that bmw's are well overrated mainly their base models anyway
it felt like my moms camery

plus he already tried it in his integra... i won by like 10 cars for strait line
it make around 160 horse too
but weights like 2700 vs the bmw's 3500ish

2.5 cars is a lot.
Why do you want it to "let loose" around the track? The whole point is to stick unless you are drifting and that's a different story.
HP doesn't mean squat. What's the torque curves like? Bet that BMW with it's straight 6 has a better curve.
Not trying to talk trash. As far as PT goes I want to out handle a C6 and ride like a BMW.

Oh, luxury sports can cars give you a sense of a slower speed. Hence the luxury part.

76z28
01-18-2010, 07:57 PM
because if you have a little under steer you can whip the tail end back around
also my torque curve comes on pretty flat from 3500-6k
and around the track we live near with some straits horse will help

it didnt feel slow it just didnt feel good turning

and yes 2.5 is alot but considering that is more of a sports car than a heavy old truck not really...

i think they are even though
cause around the streets he barely keeps up with me out of the turn around type off ramps and stuff like that

i have both
i never did the tundra except against another one
i did the chevy recently
i already know my tundra will out run it in a strait line cause it beat my chevy worse than the bmw did

formula

ok so here's what you do. Race the tundra against the beemer. then race the beemer against the chevy. theeeeennn race the chevy against your camaro. Theeeeeennnnn race the camaro against the beemer. Then--race the beemer against the chevy. Then race the integra against the beemer and then run a three way race with both of the trucks and the camaro. Then race the camaro against the integra. Then learn to spell "Straight". Then have a tail-whipping competition between the tundra, the integra, and the camaro. Then see how many donuts you can do in the bmw in under 5 minutes. Finally, race the integra against you on a bicycle.

THEN you'll know.

. . . . . . . . . . .

anyway,

Autocrosses (which can vary greatly in size and speed) aren't too hard on cars in terms of wear and tear. Find one and go run it already. I'm guessing your camaro has a pretty tired mush-ride suspension, but work with what you've got. Just make sure you have decent tires, preferably 400 treadwear or (much further) below.

As for road courses, your car might not be up to hot lapping, though I doubt you'd get in enough really hard laps in your first outing for it to matter. If it has an auto transmission, you'll at least need a transmission cooler. Stock brakes fade pretty badly, but that's a matter of how aggressive you are in the braking zones . . . whatever . . . no offense, but you didn't even get your Camaro out to the drag strip, so I have my doubts about you entering it in any sort of cornering contest.

How did the drag racing go? Do you have any times for any of the vehicles that you guys ran? . . . or was this just a quick setup on a local street?

76z28
02-08-2010, 12:01 PM
lets see, my camaro does have a tranny cooler and the shocks are about 4 years old
and the truck vs the bimmer was street light to street light
he still believes his bmw will win in a line
im still skeptical about turning but he would probably get me
as for drag race he still thinks he will get two seconds on me....
and the camaro has out ran his integra by 10 to 15 car lengths
so i dont see where he is getting off saying he will win drag

Then, swallow your pride, do your best, and have some fun seeing what your can do in some sort of cornering contest. Build from there.

Irwindale 1/8 mile drag strip: 20 dollars to drag race and it happens almost every Thursday. Just do it.
http://www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com/dragstrip/site/dragsched.asp

Adam's Motorsports Park: Time attack Tuesdays are also only 20 bucks. You run a small road course, so it's more like an autocross.
http://www.adamsmotorsportspark.com/

1/4 mile drag racing at Auto Club Speedway: This only happens about once a month now and the lines are ridiculously long.
http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/Tickets-Events/Events/2010/Auto-Club-Dragway/Auto-Club-Dragway.aspx

Goodguys autocross events: in particular, the Costa Mesa event in May. This is a nice safe environment to try out autocrossing. Your friend's bimmer wouln't be allowed in the show though. It'd be good practice for you.
http://www.good-guys.com/events/eventDetails.aspx?eventid=10-805

Then of course, if you're more serious, just check the tons of events run by the SCCA and NASA. You might also check out the West Coast RTTH event that is being setup by Bill Howell.

You ever hear of tracks other than 1/4 mile? Take it to a road course. I've taken all my cars to one not far from here. Stay the hell off MY country roads if you're thinking about racing. You can't block off tractors, animals, kids on dirt bikes, etc. You come racing around my roads and you'd better be damned fast. Sooner or later I will catch you one way or another and you're gonna need some major body work. Too many crashes, damage and hurt people around here because some damned fools think country roads are their playground - and they never consider that some of us folks and our kids live on those country roads.

Sorry, but to be blunt - you just lied. Period. It is an absolute lie to say that all you risk is your own life and property. Period. Is it your land next to the road? Didn't think so. Your fence? Nope. Your barns? Not so. Your kids? Sorry - no. I could care less about your statistics in your area. Recommending that some a$$hat travel out to rural areas (like my area) and road race is the height of ignorant stupity.

I'd sure love to see this thread get closed and locked. This is ridiculous. People should have more sense - or be banned.

Oh, and please don't accuse people of doing something like this. I have never - ever - road raced somebody on some country road. I'm frankly smarter than that. Sight lines are too short, roads are too narrow, too many pedestrians, tractors, plows, kids on bicycles, farm animals - you get the picture. Never. EVER. Not Once.

BTW, it is exactly threads like this that lead to things like
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19339955/

Which can lead to INNOCENT people getting branded with the same crime. Lots of other examples.

If you want to race, there are tracks. Beaver Run Raceway is one around here that has plenty of both straights and twisties. It can challenge you no matter what your ride or taste - and it's safe.

In all seriousness though, street racing is a lot like driving while intoxicated. I don't care if you hurt yourself but the fact that you are on a public road means that you can hurt someone else. And that doesn't fly.....

Dude, drop it. The rules don't say you can't support "street racing as a whole". It doesn't support street racing.

Have I ever raced on the street? Yes - when I was a kid - decades ago. I was wrong. Even then it was on carefully controlled locations more than 2 lanes wide. But I was wrong. Period. I risked human and property damage other than myself and my car. I will not lie and say I didn't. Sense whatever "trend" you like. I could care less.

Again - for you to say that racing on the street only risks your life and your car is a lie. Period. I personally don't want to be associated with any of this crap and will be the first to hammer those who do. People doing this crap give all the rest of us a bad name. You give reason for all the jerks who want to shut us down to begin with. You're a great big public service announcement that the Pro-Touring and/or Hot Rod crowd are dangerous.

Just drop it.

Dude, PLEASE drop it! The Dragon rocks - but it would exist without street racing - as evidenced by the very slow, crowded but enjoyable weekend tours that go through it. Street racing (ie, unsanctioned illegal racing on the street as opposed to something like the Silver State Classic) is 100% bad. Period.

cheapthrillz
02-09-2010, 12:34 PM
That's a given.

However if Road/Street Racing was 100% bad then things like "The Tail of the Dragon" would never exist. I believe everyone here enjoyed RTTH that went...

You cannot compare the two. The tail of the dragon is an enjoyable RIDE..... Not an enjoyable RACE
