I need some help with a tranny set up. Iam putting a new ls1 motor in my dads 69 camaro and iam not sure what tranny to use. Iam looking at the 4l65-e and the 4l60-e. He just wants a good daily driver.Does the ecm that comes with the ls1 crate motor control the transmission too or do you need the seperate tranny conroller also? And if so should i go with the Gm controller or go with an aftermarket controller instead.
thanks for the help

Either transmission will work fine. More than likely, you will find it easier to locate a '60. The LS1 ECU can be used to control the transmission. Programs like LS1-Edit will provide basic calibrating functions. So an aftermarket controller is not necessary for an LS1/4L60E application.

If maximum control over your transmission sounds interesting, here is an abbreviated list of benefits from the Powertrain Control Solutions manual:

BASIC TUNING
Adjust shift points
Adjust shift firmness
Adjust TCC lockup
Adjust Shift Speed

ADVANCED TUNING
Manumatic control (paddle shifting)
Multiple shift modes (economy, performance, snow mode, tow mode, etc.)
Datalogging
Real Time Tuning
Self Diagnostics

These guys are very cool.

Hey Moto, I don't know the price difference, but check out Bowtie Overdrive's 200r4, it's what I'm running in my Chevelle, and it's been bullet proof. The company is really easy to work with and they can custom build to your specs.
