hey guys, just found this site while researching different headlight options for my '68 firebird project. i was born and raised in nyc, but recently moved out to tn so i can live out a big dream of mine, to build up my first car.

it's been a daily, but now i'm trying to gather the resources to start turning it into a pro-touring daily.

i just bought the car on the 19th of december so right now it's in the planning stages, but i'm banking on getting started ASAP.

hmm, not sure what else to say -- hope everyone else had a good new year :)

Welcome aboard! Nice 'Bird, looks like a great foundation for a PT car. How's living in TN compared w/ NY? Not much different, huh?

I'm thinking culture shock...lol The thing you'll miss the most from NY is the food... I moved from Staten Island to Las Vegas a few years ago... I plan my trips back around places to go eat...

Welcome fellow former New Yorker and Bird builder:bananna2:
I'm putting together a 67 right now. What are your plans for the engine/tranny? Going with Poncho power or Cheby?

thanks for the welcome!

yeah it's in pretty solid condition, it was used as a daily driver by the guy i bought it off of. he was going to restore himself, but found an old dodge truck that sparked his fancy instead.. haha lucky for me i guess :p

i'm originally from Manhattan, lived in the same apartment for the past 23 years. i miss it like crazy, my dad still lives there but is retiring down here in 3 years.

Welcome. Have you wanted to strangle anyone yet? I bet life is a little slower down there. But ask them about NewYork and see the response. Much nicer weather in Tennessee. Good luck with the build. Lots of people here can help you keep from doing things twice.

Welcome to a brave new world.

The guy who sold you the bird is going to be so jealous when you get it painted and appraised, the value of his truck will never be as good dollar for dollar as the bird and the wow appeal is off the map in any comparison.

I hope you feel lucky to have a great starting point, a running car around here to start out with is not as common as might think.

Goodluck and happy building.

haha, the friend of mine that went with me to go check the car out before i bought it explained to me why some southerns (mostly tennesseans in this area, at least) are hostile toward northerners. luckily i don't fit in the category of what they say, so i don't pay much attention to it.

thank you :) yeah i mean, the guy i bought it from was a ratrodder, and he didn't have the budget or interest i guess to stick with this car, so he let it go.

i can't wait to get started, waiting on the weather to warm up a bit because it's been really cold out here lately, and icy.

Welcome! I think the first gen birds are awesome! Even if they are not mopars ;) can't wait to see more pics! Living in TN does take some getting used to... But you can find some incredible bargains on some sweet vehicles because "they want something new" or something. I live in East TN too... About 50 mi north-east of Knoxville.

Feel free to ask questions! And don't forget about the search function... many times you can find the answer to your question immediately. No waiting for replies!

Good to see one more Bird on the sight good luck on the build. Take your time and plan every detail out and stick with it. Changes in mid build can get expensive and burn up a lot of time.
