I am looking to install a bunch of Anvil carbon parts on my 69 Camaro and like the look of the Satin finish vs the gloss finish but am a little unsure. I want to install the front spoiler, header panel, hood, cowl panel, rear trunk and rear spoiler. The car had incorrect Z/28 stripes applied several years ago and I want to go back in the direction of the SS hockey sticks but a full paint job is a few years away. What do you guys think?

Personally, I've never liked the looks of satin carbon fiber. For me, it only looks good if its gloss. However, I really like the look of satin black for exterior or under car components. However, I would still go with gloss. Especially if your considering interior, I would absolutely not go with satin for interior pieces.
But its just an opinion, Either way, your car is already really nice, no matter what route you take, it will still be an awesome car.

I'm more of a satin finish guy myself. However, I like the understated look. I think you'll be happy either way. Nice car.

You can do this a couple of ways.If you're going to go with the hockey stripes,I wouldn't leave the carbon fiber exposed on the new parts.I feel the stripes need to be the same throughout the entire stripe.IF you decide you want to expose the carbon fiber in the stripe area you can spray the stripes glossy while you are painting the rest of the parts. After you get the car done, get it outside and get back away from it and look at it for awhile.IF you don't like it,mask off just the stripes and scuff them and reshoot it with your "satin" clear. Its your car,but I wouldn't run the hockey stripes.I'd do a similar stripe and use the "satin" clear.

gloss...satin looks unfinished on carbon fiber in my opinion.

I was only going to do the carbon center panels on the car, no fenders or anything. Just header, hood, valance, trunk, and rear spoiler. The sides of the car will still be the same as the are now. I was thinking of maybe getting a hockey stick vinyl kit from Year One unti l I can get the car totally repainted.

Just to complicate things a bit more, we will be producing carbon fiber front fenders for '69 Camaros in a few months, sooooo, if one want to, one could run exposed carbon stripes over onto the fenders too. Not sure on making doors yet. Probably will do doors for 2nd gen F bodies first, since they weigh a ton each. The thing with doors is, you really should have a full race cage since they don't offer any side impact protection.

Bare carbon fiber with a satin finish looks spectacular, really brings out the weave and layers in the material. On a vehicle that will see sun though you're gonna need to clearcoat or paint it, and I don't think a satin clearcoat will look anywhere near as good as a bare satin finished or gloss clearcoated part. Satin finishing and then clearcoating will just get you back to a gloss finish, so I think you should stick with gloss unless the car is gonna be a weekend cruiser only (parked indoors out of the sun).

Actually our satin finish has a UV clearcoat like our high gloss finish, but with a flattening agent in it. You can always make glossy carbon fiber parts satin by spraying them with a satin clearcoat or, in the same vien make satin parts glossy by spraying with a gloss coat.

Actually I would make CF parts lower on car in the satin, but up top in the shine let it be glossy.
I have seen satin finish and it just doesnt look "right" it looks worn out or unfinished.
Also a lot of the satin finish looks like vinyl "carbon look" graphics, not like real parts.

Ahh I didn't realize you had a satin coat on top, I was thinking in terms of sanding the carbon fiber in a single direction to make the layers pop. With the right kind of CF the weave takes on a look somewhat like engine turning, shifting with the light. Haven't seen it done with automotive carbon fiber, but it's done on custom and some production pocketknives that use carbon fiber handle scales. It's something I was going to try out if I ever did my own CF dash panel.

I would have thought the glossy finish would look more "fake" than the satin.

I also have to integrate with the semi-gloss black tail panel that came on the 396 cars.

Gloss CF on outside and satin on the inside. My opinion.
