just picked up a 71 corvette I am debating on building it into a track day car or keeping it bone stock and just freshening it up for resale so i can get a 911....

Its a numbers matching small block automatic car, not worth a whole lot may even be worth more as a well detailed track car?

any opinions or ideas?

the original color is war bonnet yellow it has been re sprayed.

you really cant beat the 911 driving experience in my opinion... but a c3 has great weight bias and can be set up to handle pretty nice although unlike a Porsche I don't really have any seat time in a built up corvette I don't really know how they drive other then just cruising mine on the street.
from what i hear they can get a little nervous when pushed hard on the track but then again a 911 has is quirks when pushed to the edge as well.

You won't get much for it as a track car. Probably less than you paid for it. Hardly anyone shows up at the tracks for HPDEs and track days with old cars so there's no demand for a 71 Vette track car. And a newer stock Vette will leave that 71 like it was a VW bug unless you throw a bucket of cash at it.

Sell it and buy the 911. You can buy 911 track cars cheap right now, there's lots to choose from. I've been afraid to take my 86 911 to the track because I might not want to take The 14 Car anymore. LOL The fun of practicing heel/toe shifting a 5 speed is alluring compared with manually shifting the 3 speeds of the T-350 I still have in The 14 Car! 1-2-3-2-3-2-3-2-3-1-2-3-2-3-2-3 ahahaha http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/

Get that pic out of your head unless it's going to be a keeper for you that you drive on the street and occasionally take to the track because you like the nostalgic look. To build the car in the pic will end up costing as much as a later model stock vette that will still smoke you on track (drivers being equal).

The car is worth more like it is, you can get a desent air cooled 911 SC for $10k and it will out handle the C3 stock for stock.

If you've got to have a car stuck in your head, you can't go wrong with that one!

It's a chrome bumper vette that's numbers matching. It's worth a lot more than a track prepped C3. Unless of course it's a historical C3 with actual race time like the L88 car you have in your head. Unless you just love C3s and want to build one up, sale this one and build a 911 track car.

you really cant beat the 911 driving experience in my opinion... +1

The newer are faster, but the 964 turbo and 993 looks better and are more about driving (or beeing a passenger behind the steering wheel sometimes...).
