Ok...few months back I was getting into a deal with a guy who had a 67 fairlane...long story short, he dicked me around on the car and I let the deal fall through.
I decided to spend the money on my longtime project, My 1967 mustang coupe. I need some inspiration. The suspension and brakes are lacking drastically. I want to do a coilover set up, disc brakes, and new wheels. I already have to do some work on the car due to some botched body repair work. So, constructive criticism is a must.

Do a search and you'll find lots of Mustangs here to give you plenty of specific inspiration. There's even a thread of Mustang only pics in the Multi-media section.
Just for kicks, here are some ideas I'd probably do if it was my project and I had the cash... finish the two-tone black over red, go with AirRide front and rear, some natural finish 17" minilites or GT40 style wheels (non chrome, non polished), Shelby side scoops in place of the fake vents, and if the wheelwells need work add some flares. Replace the hoodscoop with something more low profile... maybe a 69-70 Cougar XR7 scoop or a fiberglass Shelby hood (skip the Elanwhore look). Do a Nascar style side exit exhaust, a plastic or aluminum front spoiler, a shelby style rear lip spoiler. Then for motorvation, do a single or twin turbo EFI 5.0 conversion with a 5 speed (or T56 if you've got the budget), or do a small block Windsor motor with downdraft webers (or bike throttlebodies) and a serious cam. And if you want an automatic, do an AOD-E and get a controller for it so you can use the Twist Machine paddle shifter. Oh, I could go on and on and on and on and...
Good luck with the project!

I like the car alot. I think a more modern street stance with suspension mods, bigger brakes, and a retro/modern wheel. I think these would look cool (https://www.newstalgiawheel.com/images/inventory/new/FW_1007_500.gif). For drivetrain depends on what power level you want. I'm an old 5.0 guy but think the new modulars are pretty cool. a 2-valve 4.6 with the new TFS aluminum heads and a mild cam will make 425-440 hp and be light and compact. T-56 trans. If you want more power then a Pro-Charger setup (that stang should have lots of room up front for a charge cooler). for body mods I think a tasteful rear spoiler and modified teardrop hood, shaved bumpers, and a few other little things. nice blend of old and new

Some ORP http://www.opentrackerracingproducts.com/ suspension parts. Nice set of 17" or 18" wheels, modern seats (those fiberglass buckets cant be to comfortable for a long haul). There are a number of places to get an upgraded disc kit. Street or track.com has a really sweet new kit, baers, wilwood, etc. Upgrade to a power rack, TCP, Unisteer, Randalls rack, etc. Add some Subframe connectors, TCP, Meier racing, global west, etc.

Ok...since pictures were taken..I have added 2 new additions. A set of corbeau sport seats and new 2-1/2 inch exhaust from the headers back.
I need wheel Ideas....clearances....
I want to totally retrofit the suspension and the brakes. It needs something better then stock drums and springs.
Its getting a 5 or 6 speed...and I am soon going to be doing a BB swap...I need Ideas on this too....thanks for the posts so far and the links and help. I am trying to learn as quickly as possible.

To make it easier for the BB, look at the Rod&Custom Mustang II kit so you can ditch the shock towers and gain some room and make it easier on yourself. http://www.rcmotorsports.net/Pg2Link.html
They also have a rear 4 link kit. I run a 275 40 17 in the rear on a 9.5" rim, you could do a mini tub and go a bit bigger.
Personally, I would drop in a blown 4.6 before I went BB.

Go look at Bret Voekels Mustang he owns/run Air Ride Technologies, just click on the Ridetech.com link.
The controls can be as simple or as complicated as you want, my 78 C10 has 3 gauges and 3 paddle switches and I use an AC Compressor to make air. My fist was an A6 now it had a York/Tecumseh compressor.

Working on this in my driveway in front of my shop...So I think that the removal of the shocktowers may be another phase further down the road. I did some measuring and the big block will be extremely close...too close for my comfort level. I wouldn't even be able to change the plugs! So...I think a stroked 351 is the way I am going to be going.
What do you guys think of the TCP coilover conversion kit? If I do the front this way what Can be done to lower the back of the car as well?
I think I want to do 17X8 on the front and 17X9 on the rear. What backspacing? I am having trouble coming up with a wheel I like and think would look on the car.

My 9.5" has 5.75" BS, my 8" fronts have 4.5". TCP is a nice setup, as is the Global West, Ron Morris and RRS.
It took me a few months of looking at other cars, websites, etc before I fell for a set of wheels that I liked. I think it depends on the look your going for.

Do they only make FR500's in 9 inch and 10 inch wide?

I used a kit from vintage venom to bolt on latemodel cobra brakes on my Falcon. This will also give you the proper offset for latemodel wheels. They were very knowledgeable on wheel spacing etc so you might be able to give them a call. I believe that an 8" wheel is as wide as you can go with out hitting the upper balljoint. I know mine is very close with my 17x8 cobra R's. I did see some 8" Fr500 knock off wheels the other day but I can't remember where. oewheelsllc.com I think. Another option might be to get a 9" wheel narrowed 1".

I am kinda hot and heavy for the anthracite FR500 wheels. I think my only option would be to get the fronts rehooped so they are 8 wide.
I think an 17x8 for the front and an 18x9 for the back would be the way to go. That and a 1" drop from stock and a 1/2" - 1" drop in back would give it the nice stance. I think I will use stock front suspension ..use roller spring perches, coil-over drop springs, new shocks, and then eliminate my traction bars in the rear and go with a reverse eye leaf spring and new shocks. Put on a set of sub-frame connectors and maybe the shelby style traction bars and call it good.
This sound like a plan?

Just something I was playing around with

I like it. I think the reverse eye leaf springs may net you more than a 1/2"-1" drop in the rear though.

Just stick with a standard leaf and maybe use lowering blocks?

Dont use the blocks, try this mod

I do believe that someone makes a repro version of the FR500 wheel that is already 17x8 and for the SN95 offset . I think all the ford ones are 18 in. check out http://forums.corral.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=307
